Yep, that sounds about right.

A musical version of A Tale of Two Cities is about to open on Broadway, if it hasn't already. The Record gave it a nice solid "meh," but my favorite line of the review (aside from the description of Sydney's actor shouting his lines in fine Large Ham fashion) was how Lucie and Charles "are written and played as boring, personality-free saints."

Now this would be find criticism of the play if that wasn't exactly how they're written in the book. God, we spent so much time on that frakking book in school, weeks of my life I'll never get back. Even the teacher hated it; after reading it we had class discussions on how flat all of the characters were, especially the female characters who are either swooning saints or cackling villains (who everyone greatly preferred). At one point we did a count of just how many times Lucie fainted in the course of the story.

I don't get tempted to throw books against the wall easily, but the end of AToTC did it. Gah.
