January Talking Meme, Day 16: grasshopr_molly: Dean/Cas and D/s - Who's on first top (if anyone) and why?
They switch. Cas actually kinks really hard on submitting to Dean; it takes every thing forbidden about him being with Dean in the first place and turns it up to eleven. (Not that Cas gets that reference. And even when Dean finally makes him watch that movie he doesn't really get the whole thing. Dean doesn't talk to him for days.) He gets a little subversive, rebellious thrill every time they do it. When Cas tops it's because Dean wants a dose of that Angel Of The Lord awe - that's when Cas pulls out every ounce of millenia-old-true-form-is-taller-than-your-Chrysler-Building presence he can.
Dean's not into feeling pain (it brings Hell too close to the surface) but has a little punishment streak in him and he's not crazy about being tied up (that's not a Hell trigger so much as an "Oh God, what if something attacks us?" years of being a Hunter thing. Bondage only really works for him if the session goes on for a loooooong time - that lets that need to escape anxiety burn itself out.) So what they'll do instead is Dean following Cas' commands: You'll move when I say/Speak when I say/React how I'll say sort of thing. (On the other hand, Cas loves being tied up. It's more of the "letting a human do this" thing.) Dean does have a kink for inflicting pain left over from Hell, which freaks him out and he will never ever ever indulge in with anyone not-Cas. (Cas can't really be hurt by him, at least when his angel powers are active, and Cas saw him in hell.)
If we're going by averages Dean probably tops more often, but that's more because Dean is a service top at heart. He really gets off on getting his partner off and that's usually just fine with Cas.
