...Hmm.

The Authority: Prime is a pretty cool idea. Digging into the pasts of the amnesiac Apollo and Midnighter while crossing over with Stormwatch, a long-time sort-of ally they have a lot of history with, had a lot of potential.

The execution, unfortunately, wound up lacking. Basically The Authority and Stormwatch slug each other for several issues, then slug the villain who pops up, and...yeah. Action is a great thing, and an Authority staple, but not at the expense of character development.

Further, this book had a lot of stereotypical superhero comic problems that The Authority had always managed to avoid: hackneyed dialogue, art more about posing than conveying anything with facial expressions or actions, cliches and silly one-liners.

Prime isn't a total loss. Some of the scenes digging into Midnighter and Apollo's pasts are intriguing and the art's not bad. But nothing that makes The Authority special was evident in this six-issue mini-series. It was a superhero slug-fest with interchangeable characters.
