when i first moved to troy i lived in apartments for 2 years. to get my laundry to the laundromat, that was between 1/2 to 1 mile from home depending on which apartment i was in, i would stuff everything into my huge internal frame backpack and set off. now this backpack could hold about 5000 cubic inches of clothing. i didn't do laundry too often so i sometimes needed to stuff another 2000 cubic inches of stuff into another backpack which i'd wear on the front. i'd get a lot of strange looks from RPI students as i hiked down 15th street fully laden with my washing. i always used the dryers at the laundromat (something i rarely do now that i do laundry at home) because wet laundry was just way too heavy to march through town with. i also did most of my non grocery shopping in downtown troy. i could walk downtown with elby (he was less psycho, even timid then) and leave him leashed up in front of store while i browsed. this would be much more satisfying now a days because there are a lot more stores in troy offering a better variety of things than there were 10 years ago. none the less i was able to arrange catering, flowers, and invitations for bmenyuk and my wedding all from establishments in downtown troy where i was able to walk during a snow storm. i had the day off of work and it seemed like a good use of time.
