Hey, I have a game journal, don't I.
So, yes. In the interest of supporting the phenomenon of an indie comic getting something close to worldwide recognition, I spent some of this birthday Xbox space money I got on River City RansomSPTG [inexplicably all caps]. I've just 200ed the game on SUPREME MASTER for all four starting characters and got only a bit into World 1 with NegaScott [with iPod shadow palette] before the game froze again.
The freezing seems to be an unfortunately common issue with an otherwise worthwhile $10 game. I'm not crying over lack of a patch just yet--my main goal was completion as distraction removal [part of why Chainz 2 has been an issue for me, my inability to beat Stage 10 of even one play style]--but it would be nice to have and all.
[[Chainz 2, incidentally, is a COMPLETE TIME SUCK and is significantly less fun with each subsequent play on account of the ridiculous rank increase. Basically, it takes an average of three extends per level, with an average of one extend dispensed per level. I seriously detest games with the Quidditch-esque potential to NEVER be able to finish [*cough*Uno*cough*].]]
Anyway, I got 10/12 Achievements with Kim [the drummer, of course], then played through with Stills, Ramona, and Scott [11], in that order, to unlock NegaScott and summon NegaKnives [12]. I'm inclined to say [Stephen] Stills is the best, but this is an unscientific assessment since I haven't gone back to prior characters after starting a new one. I've seen people say Scott is the best because his Tech 2 is an unblockable punch, but it's slow, not as strong as other attacks, and I've found it harder to pull off in a pinch. By contrast, Stephen's tumble-roll-thing gets me quickly out of the way AND is an attack...
By contrast x2, Ramona, I'm convinced, is the worst character. Sure, she has range, but she's slow as hell [the Donatello of the group, I guess], and her Tech attacks are crap. Pull a brick out of her purse at a cost of Guts? Crap. Hadouken that doesn't actually shoot a fireball, AND I'm rooted in place? Eh. I had such a hard time completing the game with her compared to the others, and this is with all stats pretty much maxed out for each character.
Except speed. I bought Speedy the Porcupine for Kim, and that made her nigh uncontrollable. Speed is pretty much only useful for getting up the fire escape portion--otherwise, all it does is make starting over with a new character a LOT more jarring and getting through the "don't fall into the pits of death" portions completely awful. 50 speed or so is about optimal.
NegaKnives is pretty awesome, though. Ramona's Knives is the worst--healing for significantly fewer Heart points than cost in Guts points. May as well just die and do the Guts recovery thing [don't know the name for it, the auto-revive thingy].
Note for the record: Last portion of World 3 was my most played-through area, on account of Todd giving a free 1-Up upon his defeat. $49.95 or whatever for them is kind of expensive at Wallace's Secret Store, and paying off Scott's late fees is even more grindy--by that point, I could buy ten extends from Wallace. Also, beating up Envy while she's just standing obliviously in the corner is pretty satisfying, as annoying as it is dodging Lynette in the meantime.
Next: Try to get some headway in R-Type Dimensions, but I seriously don't need another distraction on the table =p
