I went up to site on Wednesday with
ishansonofbrand and others. It was my first time in a caravan with walkie talkies.... which was both quite helpful and really amusing. Much better then using the phone. Montengarde was again camping around the Sea Wolves. Its not the.... nicest spot. Its exposed to the elements, its right by the parking areas, flat ground is hard to find and there is only one biffy which is shared by Montengarde, the Sea Wolves, the pirates and Huscarles on Montengarde Way. It sure has a lot going for it though, most notably the people who collect there.
Wednesday was marked with lots and lots of setting up tents and the dramas associated with camp set up. But overall it was one of the least painful set ups I have ever done. Getting to site early and getting everything taken care of for my camp before the mad rush was really nice.
Thursday was the start of everyone else arriving. More tent setting up and a nasty storm blew through. Sat around the fire in our camp and drank and sang. Got a few hairs shy of sloppy drunk.
Friday was more setting up of people and sleeping during the day, Natal'ia trying to sell my boobs for booze. Learning how to crack a whip... by a shirtless guy in a kilt.
Saturday was WAR!!!!! Got my bossy on with Waterbearing the heavy war field. Then spent an interesting evening in Grotto
Sunday didn't hurt as much as I thought it would from hangover.... it did get FUCKING HOT! Rumour was that it was 37C in Lloydminster. Spent all day in my hemd, dunking my head in a bucket of water, drinking water and staying in the shade. The night turned nasty with a beautiful lightening storm followed by a BRUTAL wind storm that took out a few tents.
Monday was packing down camp and getting home in time to unpack and go to bed at a reasonable hour.
I think there was only one night I didn't stay up long enough to see the eastern horizon turn pink. My Quad experience was mostly of its night life this year, and not something I need to do again for a while. I am still super tired!! I need a week vacation to catch up from my weeks vacation!
Good
- I was originally worried about traveling for 6.5 hours with one of my car-mates. Turned out to be an awesome experience full of fantastic conversation.
- Not having to worry about food all weekend. Being onboard in Kirk and Bryjna's Kitchen was AWESOME!!!
- Steak and Bacon O'Clock
- Camping in Sea Wolf Bay with Montengarde
- Being told "your family" by unexpected people.... I dont have much of my own family I am close with. My SCA family means the world to me.
- Getting adopted as another "auntie" to Boy, Bit and Kibbles
- Eye candy made up of a shirtless guy in a kilt who taught me to crack a whip (too bad he is nuttier then fruitcake)
- Seeing and spending time with friends from distant places
- Boobsie Twins!
- Making new friends around the campfire
- Ego boosts abound!
Bad
- There are some things in the SCA life which are meant to be fun, and fun alone. Not everything needs to be serious and can be "won". There is someone who constantly gets under my skin with their arrogant superiority and they really pushed the buttons on a specific topic this event.
- The distinct lack of people saying "thank you" for things. Normally this doesn't get to me, hell I usually hardly notice. It just seemed to be a theme this weekend. If someone does something above and beyond the call of duty, I always make sure to acknowledge they had done so.
- The bi-polar weather.
- I am still not in armour... I wanna finish my armour dammit!!!! *growl*
Ugly
- Other peoples drama.... I suspect this is going to be on every principality level event GBU for me for the next while....
Overall Bestest event EVER! But next year, more fighting, less night time prowling!
