Well, I wasn't dreaming. Gas has in fact dropped below the $2/gallon mark, a feat which hasn't happened since I last drove out to the Mississippi River to view the Eagles. Thursday evening, while driving home through Front Royal, I noticed gas prices had dropped significantly since my last outing. The first station I came to posted $2.12. Memorial Day Weekend is coming up pretty fast, and I'm excited. Today I did a little bit of shopping to get ready for my trip. I bit the bullet and bought myself a new set of anodized aluminum pots. They're pretty nice. The set came with a 1 qt and a 1.5 qt. pot and lids that each double as frying pans. So now I may move up from just boiling water ( Read more... )

What a day. Temperatures topped 80 degrees (27 for the rest of the world) and I took a two-hour drive down to Matthiessen and Starved Rock State Parks down near La Salle, IL. Both parks feature sandstone canyons reminiscent to those of the Bankhead National Forest in Alabama. While the number of canyons is considerably less, these tend to be deeper ( Read more... )

Many times I talk about how much I love Eagles. Today I drove 270 miles in total to explore the rural northern Illinois and visit the Mississippi River. I crossed the river on land for the first time since I can remember and stepped into a new state for me: Iowa.
