Even though she only knows one language, she thinks she has more chance at the non-English language offer than the magic trick offer. He likely can't learn her magic and she hasn't had a need to develop skills in prestidigitation.
Her approach is simple. She sits down at the bar, smiles at Teller, and gives him a display of the sort of magic she can do. Her hands come together on the bar and she moves them up. Beneath them, a drinking glass made of ice is taking shape. Once it's done, she puts a single ice cube in it.
Now what's she ordering, Teller?

Back home, though, that drinking glasses with ice mean soda. So he finds a can of cola and slides it across the bar with a smile.

She takes the ice cube out again, as it's redundant to have in a glass made of ice anyway, and holds it in her thumb and forefinger. She fans her other fingers out so that now she's holding four ice cubes. She drops them one at a time, letting them disappear into the ether, and she shakes her head until she has one ice cube once again.
Is that clearer?

Water feels like the obvious answer, but if she could produce ice, then logically...
Okay, so maybe he's just being a brat, but he gives her a diet soda, instead.

The good news, though, is that his mandatory vacation is nearly over. He's just been avoiding having a conversation with Penn that he just knows will end badly.
