So good to hear of your improving health and fun-having!

Was wondering how you're progressing :-)

See, I thought I was paying 'a bit more' for a PPO entirely so I could see anyone I wanted whenever. I don't understand why I still need to put up with this crap. What kind of plan do you have?

were you on an HMO from your previous job? if you haven't updated your insurance with your doc, she may be operating on old information which requires her to ...yada yada yada.

I don't understand what you mean by "getting your arm treated". When I dislocated my shoulder in June 2006 the Canadian doctor told me emphatically NOT to use it AT ALL for 8 weeks. This sucked eggs, but I did it and it hasn't ever popped out of joint since. I'm really worried that you're not letting the ligaments that got stretched when your arm was out of joint heal up right and that you will risk further dislocations in the future. If dislocations continue, you might have to have surgery to fix the ligament, which is a PITA to say the least.

Ghah - I just read your last paragraph (was prompted to write the above before finishing your post) and am sitting here in HORROR! I beg you PLEASE don't do anything more to your arm/shoulder. Don't use it at all. Just don't.

By getting my arm treated I mean getting somebody to tell me what to do about it. Every mainstream medico I've seen so far has focused entirely on the concussion I had, and while I'm sure they have just cause for concern, I'm beyond frustrated that I haven't heard a word about my arm beyond 'oh, yes, that's a worry, let's wait until we get some paperwork'. Well, it's been a fortnight since the accident and I've been trying for a week to get some kind of answer. If the answer I got was 'don't do anything for eight weeks', great, but nobody's told me a bloody thing.

Thanks for your advice. I do appreciate it, even if it frustrates me. I'm not frustrated by the suggestion of not using my arm; I'm frustrated because it's the opposite of what somebody else told me their doctor told them (admittedly about a different joint) and because the absence of medical advice has reduced me to acting on hearsay. I'll take it easy on the arm and be anything but easy when pushing to get some results this week. It's criminal that I have to push at all.

I'm sorry that you haven't been given any advice on the arm. That's beyond frustrating and bad medicine. Push for the right appointments.

I kept my arm in a sling for 8 weeks and tried not to lift it more than a COUPLE OF INCHES away from my body. This sucked. Really. Washing my underarm was extremely difficult and it smelt beyond bad, but kragen would help me shower and we managed. Remember - this was during our road trip when we were living in the bus. Then the bus broke down. Ah good times.

The problem is that if you don't let the ligament heal properly then it will stay stretched out and you will be more prone to dislocations in the future. I have known two people who have had this happen and they both ended up getting surgeries to tighten the ligament after 4-5 dislocations, from simple things - like brushing their hair....

So at what point were you told that? I've managed to get a physio appointment now but it's not until late March. I'll be in Australia before that; I'm planning to just go there and bypass all the bullshit.

I'm glad you're feeling better, and I agree with you. American "healthcare" is shameful.

I'm glad you are feeling better and that you had a good time at the Pan-didn't see ya at all.
Pirate fun-Arhhhh me hardies did party......
I have been fighting the pirate wave -just because-I hate Disney!
It turns out that someone I know wrote the Pirate trillogies, it's fun, but there is still this nagging thing about how much media influences most peples reality-the play have fun fantasy is the best of it-but the actual conditioning of a whole society is scarry.
Who are You?

I'm a little confused here-you're asking who I am, even though you didn't see me at Pantheacon? =) I'm afraid I'm a bit confused about exactly who you are, too, but I'm pretty sure we know each other through TAG.
