GUESS WHERE I WAS LAST NIGHT.
So, a few months ago, I opened my big mouth and said to my Dad, "You know what? I'd really love to see Paul McCartney in concert before he stops touring." And Dad said, "You know what? I had the same idea, and he's on tour this summer." Click, click, click, tickets bought! Love the 21st century!!
So last night, we went to Yankee Stadium - first time I'd ever been there, and chances are I'll never see the Yankees actually play there, lol! - and saw Sir Paul.
Holy SHIT. I saw a real member of the Beatles. YOU GUYS I CANNOT GET OVER THIS!!
He played an AWESOME setlist of mostly Beatles and Wings music, and we sang and clapped and danced until we were hoarse. We sat rather far away, but it didn't matter. He knows how to entertain a crowd, and he's adorable. "What? You want to rock more tonight? I thought as much." Favorites of mine included "Let it Be", "Hey Jude", "Eleanor Rigby", "Band on the Run", the Long and Winding Road", "Lady Madonna", "I Will", "Blackbird", "Drive My Car"...OK, basically all of them. And then, for "Live and Let Die" - dude, in addition to the awe-inspiring music, there were FIREWORKS!! Pyrotechnics galore!
And, then. AND THEN. I can't even remember if it was right before the setlist was done or during the first encore (yes, first, he came out for TWO encores!!), but I screamed and screamed and I think part of my brain might have exploded from awesome.
For you see, Paul McCartney started talking about how he wanted to introduce someone to the stage - a good friend and a friend to New York - and it was
BILLY JOEL.
OMFG A PIANO PLAYER'S DREAM TO HAVE BOTH ON THE STAGE. MCCARTNEY AND JOEL. OMGOMGOMG. If Elton John had showed up, too, I would have probably keeled right over. You don't understand, when I play the piano, I play basically 3 things - Disney songs, the works of Lennon and McCartney, and Billy Joel. I couldn't believe it!!! People must have thought I was insane, and I jumped up and down for most of the next 5 minutes straight.
They played, "I Saw Her Standing There". It was like I'd never heard that song before until that moment.
Needless to say, it was an amazing night that I hope I NEVER forget for the rest of my life. And who knows, maybe I'll get a chance to see him again, even closer to the stage! One can only dream!!
