Noise pollution like that is why I hate skateboard(ers). Its like having a concrete mixer rolling past your house.

I really don't think they understand just how noisy skateboards can be, especially at night when there's hardly any other noise, and especially in a valley, where sounds just _echo_.

Yes, I used to live in Aro Valley. This is one reaon why I don't own a crossbow, because I'm sure I would have used it at some stage...

The reason I dislike skateboarders is that their culture seems to include a persecution complex. "You can't tell me what to do just because I'm a 'boarder! Skateboarding is not a crime!"

I'd hoped that this was a trait restricted to skateboardus Americana, but it appears that the Australian breed has it to some extent.

Me: We have to go to work in the morning.
Yoof: Not my problem.

Whenever loud people (usually neighbours, but sometimes skateboarders, and occasionally this guy who drives home late at night with his windows all open and his stereo cranked to the max) cop this attitude, my usual response is, "It'll BE your problem when I shove this katana up your ass." Amazing how having the reputation for being the crazy lady with the sword goes so very, very far.

Yeah, I basically made it clear that I was going to be his problem, and he could solve it the easy way or the hard way. In the end he chose the easy way. I don't think he was expecting to be challenged at all, let alone by a woman.

Telling them I'd tried asking nicely made it pretty clear to them that I was going to escalate if necessary, I think.

Asking nicely also gives the other person the option of responding nicely.

Exactly. I gave him plenty of chances to say "Oh sorry, didn't realise there was a problem" and roll away.

Very nicely handled. Glad it worked without escalation in this case.
