A weekend at Norah Heads

You can take the girl out of the city but you can’t take the city…

I spent the weekend with friends at a swim n’ surf spot up north called Norah Heads. It is one and a half hour drive from Sydney and famous for its beaches, the waves and a light house built more than 200 years ago. It was the first time my friend An and I went camping and the highlight for me was trying to figure out how to set up our tent!

Unfortunately, we picked the wrong weekend as it was overcast and rained a bit during the day. Nonetheless, we tried to make the most of it by having an enjoyable Bar-b-q for dinner (steak, sausage, roast chicken, onions, asparagus, mushrooms, cucumber, tomatoes, etc) then a breakfast feast the next day (bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, fresh bread rolls, etc).

The hosts Pete and Minh

Pete’s friends Kellie and Taz brought the coolest camping gadgets known to man. A rubber cup that folds into itself (to save space), a ‘mini-sleeping bag’ to use within a sleeping bag and miniature size cooking utensils. Taz said that Kellie’s a descendant of Nordic Vikings haha but it turned out he was kidding. :-( Grr. I so wanted to believe the story. :-P

The conversation ranged from trying to define ‘free will’, Anna Nicole Smith’s drug-induced performance at the AMAs to the rat (which we thought was a rabbit) that attempted to approach our table while we were having dinner. That reminded me that we probably didn’t zip our tent properly and that the rat’s in there eating our food. My friend An was the brave one with the torch, checked the tent before we went in to make sure we didn’t have any guests and said this:

An: It’s okay, there’s nothing in there…why don’t you go in first?

Our nicknames that weekend were ‘Paris and Nicole’. I don’t see it. Though An brought her Chanel facial wash and I brought my slippers with flowers on them. Haha. All in all an excellent weekend (despite the weather and the craziness in between!)
