Today was 'women of the family' day. I took my grandma and my mom out to watch 'Shall we dance?' which stars Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Jennifer Lopez. :P I knew that it was the kind of movie they’d enjoy (plus, I’m a closet J-lo fan. You can say anything you want about her but that girl can dance :P)
Just our luck that the cinema was experiencing technical problems which meant that the movie showed Jennifer looking like a fat, stretched midget. Imagine the ‘circus mirror’ effect and that was what we got. It was hysterical at first to watch Richard, Susan and Jennifer looking like midgets (not that there’s anything wrong with midgets.) but after a few minutes I got a headache watching the screen looking like that. So to cut a long story short, I marched out of the cinema with my mom and grandma and asked for a refund. The manager was apologetic, gave me my money back plus THREE complementary tickets. WooHoo. I was quite set on watching ‘Shall we…’ so we decided to hang around the shopping centre until the next session.
The movie was better than I expected and I love Susan Sarandon. To me, she’s like one of the few real women in Hollywood. And a brilliant actress at that. The dance scenes in the movie showed J-Lo’s body in its full splendour so I think guys who like her get their money’s worth if they watch this movie. :P I loved her outfit in the end, dark yellow dress and a pink orchid (?) on her hair. She looked stunning.
It was a 4pm session at a local cinema so not surprisingly, we found we had the theatre all to ourselves!!! Except for a couple who waltzed in just before the movie started.
My problem was that my mom and grandma acted like they were watching the movie at home because they started laughing out loud and talking among themselves about what was happening in the movie. I really wanted to tell them off for being inconsiderate except they’re my own blood. Grrr. And telling them off would have been silly as we were the only ones there and the other couple didn’t seem to mind (uh…they were preoccupied).
We ended the ‘women of the family’ day at the local RSL club where I gave my mom and grandma $10 each to play on the poker machines. Of course they both lost but at least they had a good time.
It’s been years since my mom, grandma and I watched a movie together and only occasionally that we spend a whole day just the three of us. So it’s been a very special day and in typical Filo fashion, we took photos to commemorate the occasion. :D
