car update

Jul 11, 2007 21:58

So yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon Shaker police called and told me my car was recovered in Cleveland near w.25th and i-71. No arrests were made, it as abandoned.

Today Gary wasted 3+ hours of his life helping me get it back from the impound lot (thanks again!). We had to go to the police headquarters at the justice center downtown to get the vehicle released, then to the impound lot. The car was in good enough shape that I drove it back, but it is a little fucked up. They scraped / hit something leaving some cosmetic damage and popping the front right turn signal out of its socket (but it snapped back in). The front left headlight which was already held together by superglue and duct tape was even more broken, and has a fresh coat of duct tape, visible from the outside this time. A hub cap is missing. The trunk is dented up and does not like to stay closed.. when it does stay closed it's not easy to open. They spray painted a line across the left side of the car and what appear to be letters (some kind of sweet gang lingo, presumably) on the back with paint meant for clothes. I know this because the left a small can of a different (shimmery gold) color in the car, and it shows a picture of a little girl painting "princess" on a denim jacket. They ripped off the glove compartment door (which was totally unnecessary as it didn't even latch to begin with). All of my precious burned cd's (there were actually a FEW real CDs that i hadn't ripped to mp3 yet) are gone, replaced with "Me and Dall rap," possibly the thief's own phatt beatz. It wasn't good at all, though. They didn't steal the stereo, but they pulled off the faceplate rim thingy and left it on the ground, which i just snapped back on. They left juice boxes in the back seat (maybe they were 12! or brought their kid brothers along) and some other shit. Took / threw away everything in the doors which was mostly napkins, old receipts, and the insurance / registration info. Umm... Oh, and the ignition was ripped out so I start it with a screwdriver now (or my finger, but that kinda hurts). The battery was dead and it was totally out of gas. Gary tried to jump start me but realizing it was out of gas, we had to go get some first, then come back and jump it again. The steering is fucked up somehow, too.

I also learned that impound lots are gross and depressing, and the dudes that work there don't seem to care about basically anything in the world. But they were nice and let us use their jumper cables.

So now the car's back in the parking lot from which it was stolen, decorated and modified for easier stealing. I should be shopping for a new car very soon!
