And it has been almost a month since an update

Work has been busy much of the month with the semester winding to an end. I've lectured my rear off. Mostly, I've also used what free time I could at lunch to write on the novel, instead of post. And thus no posting.

As of this morning, I'm up to above 34,000 words on Novel #4. I'd like to hit 40,000 by end of Friday. My goal is to be completely done with the rough draft by May 17th, which is the first day of summer classes. That may be doable since I have a total of 15 hours of tests to proctor and write during this and next week, plus one break day off work.

Yesterday I outlined out the rest of the novel, except the final few scenes. I'm guessing I'm halfway to the end, so the rough draft would come in at 60-70 K. We'll see if I guesstimated that right later.

I think I mentioned it, but during holidays last year my parents gave me their old monster Toshiba laptop. I've set it up on a corner of the kitchen table and it's become my internet computer because of its large screen. So, my little eee pc hasn't seen the internet besides a few trips away from home. On the mornings I have time to write, despite getting up at 5am, I wake up to a few minutes of internet playing and breakfast, then I sit down with the eee pc to write. The method has worked well, because when I sit down with the mobile laptop I get into writing mode better, and feel less like clicking back to the internet. It might have also helped at work, where I turn away from the work desktop, and turn on the little eee pc and in the same space am able to put on my writer's brain.

Of course, the eee pc, which is almost 3 years old, seems to be getting increasingly flaky. So, I'm trying to decide which of the newer eee pc models I'd like to buy to make my new mobile laptop. Think I it's the 1005 PE model I like, because of its long battery life. I could bring it to work and not have to ever bring in the charger. Tomorrow I have 6 hours of tests, and the current eee pc battery doesn't last past 3.5 hours on the lowest energy settings, so charger will be going with me. Or I could use it outside to watch Jedi play sports, and not have to worry as much about battery life since I have to dial up the screen brightness in full sun.
