Quick Role-Playing Supplement Review: Spirit of the Season

Mar 09, 2008 20:42

Spirit of the Season is a supplement/adventure written by Fred Hicks/Evil Hat Productions and Chad Underkoffler/Atomic Sock Monkey Press for Spirit of the Century and Truth & Justice (PDQ). I pre-ordered the book (72 page digest-sized perfect-bound) from Indie Press Revolution and received the pdf. The quick review is based on reading the pdf.

Spirit of the Season contains:
• A collection of pre-generated heroes: Nick Saint and his Reindeer Men (Codename Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph), Judah Hammerstein, Matthew D'Isreali, and Hannah Cohen and the Cohen Boys.
• Five villians: the "Naughty List": Shadows of the Season: Jacque Frost, Baroness Blackheart, Doctor Scrooge, Antochus the Defiler, and Professor Salomon Mizrah.
• New rules material for Spirit of the Century including Mystic Spellcraft and Companions Reloaded.
• A large number of plot ideas for the one-shots (or a campaign).

The supplement/adventure was well-written, enjoyable to read and very humorous. It is nice to have some more example characters for Spirit of the Century and the new rules material was interesting. I hope to run a one-shot using this material next Christmas/Chanukah season.

Read 2008: #10 of 50.
