Hi everyone. How are ya'll doing? I hope you are having a good day and everyone over on the east coast, stay cool. I don't envy your heat wave. Hope it ends soon.
This week's choice for my Vid rec was an easy one. TNT just recently finished airing 'Devil's Trap' and 'In My Time of Dying' on Tuesday. You all know I love John and love the relationship of John and Dean, so when John sacrifices himself so that Dean might live - well, it just really breaks me up inside. Every time those episodes air I get all verklempt. Dean loves his father so much and he misses him terribly - even now, 5 years later.
One of the things I love about Dean is his dedication and love and need for his family. I totally relate and understand his need for his brother and father and how he has a hard time being alone. I share many of the same emotions myself.
And John, despite how flawed he was and how he raised his sons, he really did love them both heart and soul. Back in 'Salvation' he told the boys that Mary's death almost killed him and he would not survive it if one of his boy's were to die. Knowing and understanding that Dean would not be waking up from this crash and the damage done to his body by the YED, it only makes sense that he would be willing to sacrifice himself for Dean. Dean is his oldest, his boy, his heart, and so much like Mary, and to bear the thought of living without him, was probably too much for him to take. Also, he probably realized that Sam would be better off with Dean than with him, John also knew that Sam would need and want his brother more than his father, so he did the only logical thing and gave Sam the best gift he could, bring back Dean by exchanging his life for Dean's. Although he had hoped and had originally intended not to have to sacrifice himself, when John had no other choice or option - he did what he had to do, for Dean, for Sam. Gosh I love John.
So, today's vid is a John & Dean Season 1 finale tribute. The song used is entitled 'He's My Son' by Mark Schultz. The vid was created by kiwioflurve (or lotr_lemmy). Unfortunately, YouTube blocked the vid on copyright issues, but I was fortunate enough to find that she uploaded the vid on 4shared. This is a beautiful vid and really encapsulates John's love for his sons and Dean's love for his father. I can't help but cry every time I watch this. Enjoy!!
