Fic Recommendation

Hey everyone!  How's it going?  I hope you are all having a pleasant enough Monday.

Well, I continue to read SPN fanfics and fall in love with Dean more each time I read through another story. Especially when the story is by the wonderful gaelicspirit .  I have been reading through all her stories and am now on the last two, after which, I believe I will have read everything that she has written and posted on her LJ and on Fanfiction.net.  And I just gotta say, I love her characterizations of Dean and Sam and John and Bobby. They are all so right on. And the way she weaves actual canon into her stories is wonderful.

The fic I am recommending at this time is entitled, 'In the Light.'  This fic is set in Season 2 and takes place immediately after 'Born Under a Bad Sign.'  We also get a return visit from one of her original characters that first appeared in her story 'Ramble On.' And I loved that character so I was really happy to see him again.

Gaelic's summary of this story is as follows:  There is no rest for the weary. An old friend and a new hunt pits Dean against the elements and Sam against himself as the brothers fight for each other and for survival.

And as with anywhere Dean and Sam go, they can hardly go someplace to rest or do something fun without running into a hunt. And that is exactly what happens here.  After the events of BUABS, Dean and Sam need time to rest and recuperate, so Bobby sends them to a friends place, somewhere tucked away where they can rest up from their recent injuries and try to heal from Sam being possessed.  Well, it seems the first night Dean accidentally finds trouble and that ends up being just the start of it.  Dean is once again pummeled every which way. He is beaten up, battles rain, he almost drowns, fever, a vengeful witch, and his own fears about himself and Sam.  He also battles with the ghost of John Winchester.

Through it all, Dean and Sam continue to forge their own way through this latest hunt and manage to come out alive at the other end, only by their own sheer will and their love for each other. I absolutely loved this story.  It really gets into the minds of Dean and Sam and what is going on inside as they deal with not only this hunt, but the ramifications of Sam's possession, his attempts as a Demon to kill Dean, and Dean's refusal to kill Sam and his never ending love for his brother and his need to protect him at all costs.  In one of her chapters, Gaelic best describes Dean and Sam like this, and I particularly loved this sentence. This is coming from a 3rd POV. "Sam may be Dean's purpose in life, but Dean was Sam's anchor. His connection to reality."

These two just break my heart.  Bobby also makes an appearance in this story and he comes later in the story to help out, because he is the one that sent to brothers to this hideaway, so it seems only fitting that he come help out when the situation gets dire.

This is a long story, 8 chapters, and each chapter is between 20 and 30 printed pages. But is is well worth the read, if you haven't already read it.
