Back.
Had an excellent time on vacation, will discuss it extensively later. Right now I am wicked tired. Got 4 hours of sleep last night and put mrsmetallian on a plane this morning. She will be in Tanzania for five weeks due to poor plane ticket availability. I won't see her again until she arrives in Indianapolis for GenCon on August 15th. :/
I went for 9 days with no internet. None. Holy crap. That was okay, but I am hopelessly behind on LJ.
I did catch up on fi-uh yesterday and today, though, and found some good stuff:
Speaking of movies, I thought that Spider-Man 3 was great and then tons of people hated it. I did not particularly like Transformers and now it appears that tons of people loved it. Usually I'm the guy who defends movies that other people hate, so WTF happened here?
For fuck's sake, I bought these frozen red bean rice balls a while back and I can't seem to time the microwave right. They're either still frozen or way overcooked.

- An interesting and entertaining piece on the complicated relationship between academic medievalists and fantasy fandom.
- Orson Scott Card's excellent (AND SPOILERIFFIC) Harry Potter essay. While it's focused on Snape, I think it very neatly articulates much of what is good about the series, and the sorts of things I like about it.
- This trailer for Shoot 'em Up looks amusing. I seem to enjoy movies about assassins with everyday problems. The use of Kickstart My Heart doesn't hurt, either.
