So last Friday we went over to
fortinbras16 & Co's place to play the new Star Wars RPG. It went very well, Doc Bosch did an excellent job setting up life among the outcast Jedi out on the fringe...before my character and an assload of Stormtroopers showed up to ruin it!
(I had been unexpectedly busy that week so my character was not quite finished when I got there, so I was a little off-guard when she appeared on-screen. I am apparently not good with military banter. This helped me finish allocating my stats - I used Charisma as a dump stat even though she has the "Born Leader" talent...I figure she's an effective combat commander, but nobody really likes her.)
My character, of course, had been told that we were raiding illegal combat droid factories. She was rather taken aback when we started "pacifying" obviously harmless locals. I earned a Dark Side score when she delegated a rather distasteful order to her subordinates. Obviously, some Dark Side points were going to come with the territory of being an Imperial Officer. By the end of it all, Darth Vader himself told her to reconsider her career choices. Well, okay, if you insist... ^_^
She was seriously underpowered, though. I constructed her using a 25-point buy, and everyone else rolled their ability scores.
mrsmetallian actually calculated that a 25-point buy is worse than the average random roll. Doc Bosch said I could use some extra stats
mrsmetallian rolled up (because she thought her initial stats were "too good" before she saw everyone else's) instead and now she's in much better shape.
The next day, we went to the
Cedarburg Strawberry Festival and ate our way through Cedarburg once again. Mmm, kettle corn and wood-fired BBQ. Sadly, the irresistibly-bizarre "strawberry bratwurst" sold out before I could try it.
We also found a very cool painting by a
local artist. The painting, the frame, and the matting suit our dining room very well.
mrsmetallian went back to get it the next morning after we'd measured the wall to make sure it would fit.
That night, the inimitable
kingfox (in Wisconsin for a friend's surprise birthday party) and his friend
csmole (on an extended tour of the USA) came by and we hung out around the bar for a good long time before going to bed.
The next morning, we all went out to
Bayou for a most excellent brunch before the guys proceeded on their long journey back to New Jersey.
Photos here. Then we spent the rest of the day doing work or yard work and the like. (And occasionally reading comics - how about that New Avengers #31, huh?)
All-in-all, a very good weekend.
Of course, tomorrow night we're off to NJ for our beach vacation. We'll be seeing several of you on Saturday or later in the week. Woo!
