Sup dudes.

I've worked the last 3 days, all very different things. Friday was a full day for 3rd grade. The first 2 hours where in the classroom doing math and a US map project/puzzle. After that it was off to the Rollerdrome in Centralia for the end of the year fieldtrip. Pretty fun and easy day over all.

Monday was a halfday for my high school drama teacher (she was mainly English at THS when I was there) for middle school social studies. I stopped in last Thursday to talk to her as I hadn't seen her since I graduated and we talked for well over an hour. When I arrived she was still there and the kids thought it was pretty cool that I had her years ago. The kids were pretty good and I liked it there. It is actually the first time I subbed outside of Tenino this school year. Now that I know she is there I will try to hit up more work from there too.

Today was another halfday but at the high school for sophomore English. They finished up Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and I used my knowledge of the play and Caesar's life to wrap it up. When I explained how it could have been named "The Tragedy of Brutus and gave the historical background the kids really got it. It's cool to have those teaching moments when you substitute teach because so often you can get stuck with mindless worksheets or movies.

One of the English teachers went to the Goonies 20th anniversary in Astoria, Oregon this weekend. She bought me a Goonies glass which was super cool of her.

Financially things are still a little sketchy. I was able to get my bank student loan knocked down to less than half of what I was paying (formerly $280/month). My Stafford loan is now on Income Based Repayment and my monthly payments are now a whopping $0. That's not a typo, it's $0... thank goodness.

The bummer news, but also a relief for me, is that I am on the current day equivalent of food stamps. I'm sure I've been eligible for probably the last year but finally looked online to see what I would get. The online estimates said about $50 per month. When I called and took in my last 3 pay stubs they found that I'm eligible for $136 per month. While I am a fan of social services and helping my fellow man I never thought that I would be the one needing the help. But it's come to that, the subbing the last couple months has not been paying the bills or enough to feed me.

I've been pretty down because of the food stamps thing until I picked it up. It's such a relief that I feel like I can mentally function again. I've been getting my resume ready and will send it to temp agencies. I also applied for a job in Eatonville. And, this will be a secret for you guys in LJ land, but there will be a History opening at THS by the end of 2010. Even if it's a one year gig that would help me pay off some debt and be a resume builder. The other plus would be seeing the kids I student taught as freshmen graduate next year... but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Alrighty, gonna go eat some dinner and watch some baseball. Peace, homies.
