Advice wanted, another volleyball post, unfortunately...

Last Thursday one of my old JV players, who moved up to starting varsity this year, asked me before class why I wasn't coaching next year and she was mad that I wasn't. She and I had a pretty strong bond from our one year together on JV as she has a great head for the game. We usually were thinking the same thing at the same time, would nod at each other, and she would make the adjustment as the game went. She is just one of the great girls I will miss coaching next year.

As she put me on the spot I wasn't sure what to say. I could go the high and politically correct road or I could tell her exactly what happened and what a load of crap it all really is. I sat there shocked for a moment, still trying to find some worksheets before the class bell would ring, and finally told her I would tell her later in the period or right after school, since it was the last class of the day. If anything it would buy me time to think of a response. As luck would have it, I was off the hook. She was called away towards the end of the period and the conversation was avoided. However, a kids camp is going to be happening in the next couple days and I know a few of the girls will be helping with that. Certainly she will remember to ask and the other players will realize that I am not around to help.

So, ADVICE TIME.

When a player asks me why I am not coaching next year do I...

A) Lie and tell them I wasn't going to coach next year so that I could actively find a full time teaching position, allow them to find a new coach in time for summer work outs, and even allow them to find another coach with more experience than I.

B) Tell them what really happened because I've done enough falling on the sword for this school (ie, not getting the teaching position last year and taking the super high road on it in every way). I was told that the job was opened by a phone call, not in person, that they wanted more experience. It was obvious that I wasn't wanted when I found out a couple days after the phone call about other off season activities (the kids camp, June/July workouts, potential camps). That is stuff I should have been in the loop for like I was the previous season.

Even if I went with B, I'd probably sugar coat it a little. As in "they wanted to find someone with more experience" and try to leave it at that.

Let me know what you all think.

Other quick things:
--A student initially mistook me for another (new) student at first, thanks to the almost 30 lbs I've lost. What's funny is that not only have I taught her many times over the last 2 years but I was also her volleyball coach last year, so she saw me everyday for 2 hours at practices and games!

--I have found 3 full time and 1 part time history job openings in the WHOLE state for next year. Hopefully more will come open but I kinda feel like I'm screwed.
