something to say...

Now I have something to say.
And I am sure that many fans feel attacked, I think it is necessary to say it now
and to those who feel disturbed by that: I'm sorry that you had to read it.
However I have to vent my anger.

I just want to say that I can't understand how people can prejudge the "The Cry Against" preview with a footage of just one ( Read more... )

Honestly, I'm glad someone wrote something like this.

I understand someone might be shocked with the sudden changes - hey, I'd been too! - but it's not like previews are enough reason to judge the music or band itself. Gee, even the whole single shouldn't be any judgement, because really, for God's sake - it's only one single in the career of band which is making music since year 2001! You can't just shatter everything what those people have done in almost ten years just because of two songs, especially if you consider yourself as their fanI mean, I get all these people's point and I perfectly understand those, who are negative about changes and previews - it's their choice, right, I can't interfere in other people's opinions - but it doesn't change the fact, that I agree with your entry and I think we all should think about what we're doing right now ( ... )

Hi.
While I can certainly understand your sentiments re: last.fm, let's please not get into speculation on the behaviour of those there not here. We've got a good community here. :)
This line of discussion is fine, but let's please leave last.fm out of it.

Thanks for understanding!

whether the songs are good or bad now, is now an open question time, I'm mainly ONLY to the topic criticize the people just what they can not even criticize. whether it likes it or not right, that's all his own taste, I think it's just a bit unfair ... which the people are much too early to form their opinions.

I must say, I think it's only right that the band evolved, because he can not exactly stay on the same standing as of 2001.

I for my part, however, en do not find it now so bad that their music does well, but we can not be attributed also to integrate two.
I certainly think well what they're doing now and I like it when other people do not like okay, then that's their taste, because I will not and can not talk about those too pure.

People have a right to express their opinions about a song, and even to determine they don't like the band's current music.

Also, it's incredibly painful on my eyes to see your red font, and it clashes severely with my layout colors. Changing font colors is unnecessary.

yes true, I have not said they did not have the right to judge, I just think that's not fair to say just a minute to whether the song is good or bad now, I just think people should wait for the first and then listen to the whole song and then maybe to judge only.

I don't know about you, but samples are a way for people to determine whether they like a song, so people's criticism of samples is as legit as listening to the whole song. If I don't like a 30-60 second clip of a song, it's pretty safe to say I won't like the whole song, and 99% of the time that determination is accurate.

Honestly, you are sounding as if you're taking issue with people judging the band's music, and you seem to conflate disliking the music with disliking the band personally, which is kind of silly. Take a deep breath and try to understand that not everyone is going to like every song for their own reasons, whether or not you agree with them.

Wall-o-text. (My stance; this isn't just directed at you, but what you said made me think. lol) mousoucarnival July 24 2010, 19:33:31 UTC

I've always taken Merry's samples with a considerable grain of salt. XD;

Seriously though, I'm well-aware that by now that some people can take more from a sample than I personally can! Anything else in life we tend to sample can be that way, I suppose. You hate the taste, you hate the scent, you move on. With the way I've cared for these guys though, it's unthinkable that I could personally come to any sort of "final" judgment until I've heard it (in HQ) for myself, yeah? But again, that's me. I'll gladly respect others' opinions if they respect mine, and generally that's not been anything resembling an issue, at least where this sort of thing is concerned ( ... )

I am very rarely ever in the position where I can honestly say that a band's new direction sucks. I am about 90% likely to enjoy a band's change in sound, simply because I don't like to hear the same thing over and over.

BUT. In this case, I've been listening to Merry for awhile, and I've been a big fan, I own most of their stuff, and I feel pretty entitled to say that their new direction sucks. It sounds like plenty of other ~dark~ ~heavy~ VK bands that I already have tons of music from. I don't need more. Merry was unique, and now they're not. There's no reason for me to enjoy that.

Obviously people can like it, Idrc, but you should understand people that maybe have been following them for awhile and this new sound is pretty sad.

Also, red font = major DNW

Agreed. I've been following Merry almost since their debut and I'm pretty disappointed in their latest stuff and have been for a while now. The only constant is Gara's distinctive voice which I still like. There have been a few songs here and there that I've liked, but tbh about 60% of their songs in the past 6 months have just been a hot mess of clashing noise, or so it seems to me, and the rest have been forgettable.

Yeah, in all honesty, I've been getting more and more disappointed in them since Peep Show. Each album has been a little worse. I'm pretty sure this next one will be the last straw for me, and it saddens me to say that. =/

*nods* I liked Peep Show, but it was definitely... underwhelming. I guess it's not quite fair to judge it based on the awesomeness of nu chemical rhetoric (my favorite album), but at this point I've stopped bothering to hope they'll ever make songs as good as that again. :|

Oh, and don't even get me started on the crap that was the underworld album. Speaking of a hot mess. 8|

and to this "this is indeed just a small part of their career and we can't look into the future to see which way they are headed." i can only agree.

I'm not trying to be cheeky in saying this, but if I recall correctly, you really seemed to be loving where things were going, perhaps more than ever, right? I'm actually really curious to hear what you think.

(If that wasn't you, I'm sorry. DX)

well, I was more cautiously optimistic than anything, haha

in any case, I think Monochrome is pretty great (and still very definitely Merry), and I'm still reserving judgment on The Cry Against until I hear the whole thing. (and even then, I don't really think it's fair to judge the band's direction until they release a full album. I'm patient!)

I've been following this band since the very beginning, and they've released a lot of stuff I love and quite a few things I just don't like at all, so I have no problem rolling with the punches.
