something to say...

Now I have something to say.
And I am sure that many fans feel attacked, I think it is necessary to say it now
and to those who feel disturbed by that: I'm sorry that you had to read it.
However I have to vent my anger.

I just want to say that I can't understand how people can prejudge the "The Cry Against" preview with a footage of just one ( Read more... )

I am very rarely ever in the position where I can honestly say that a band's new direction sucks. I am about 90% likely to enjoy a band's change in sound, simply because I don't like to hear the same thing over and over.

BUT. In this case, I've been listening to Merry for awhile, and I've been a big fan, I own most of their stuff, and I feel pretty entitled to say that their new direction sucks. It sounds like plenty of other ~dark~ ~heavy~ VK bands that I already have tons of music from. I don't need more. Merry was unique, and now they're not. There's no reason for me to enjoy that.

Obviously people can like it, Idrc, but you should understand people that maybe have been following them for awhile and this new sound is pretty sad.

Also, red font = major DNW

Agreed. I've been following Merry almost since their debut and I'm pretty disappointed in their latest stuff and have been for a while now. The only constant is Gara's distinctive voice which I still like. There have been a few songs here and there that I've liked, but tbh about 60% of their songs in the past 6 months have just been a hot mess of clashing noise, or so it seems to me, and the rest have been forgettable.

Yeah, in all honesty, I've been getting more and more disappointed in them since Peep Show. Each album has been a little worse. I'm pretty sure this next one will be the last straw for me, and it saddens me to say that. =/

*nods* I liked Peep Show, but it was definitely... underwhelming. I guess it's not quite fair to judge it based on the awesomeness of nu chemical rhetoric (my favorite album), but at this point I've stopped bothering to hope they'll ever make songs as good as that again. :|

Oh, and don't even get me started on the crap that was the underworld album. Speaking of a hot mess. 8|

The production was dubious, but there were a lot of songs I really liked on there. Though, I'd probably agree with you that NCR was the best, lol. And yeah, I've got pretty close to zero hope left that they'll snap out of this. Not with the way things have gone in the last few years.

Yeah, I mean I liked identity and a few other songs, but the other songs were actually painful on my ears. D8 And I say this as someone who likes screamo bands like THE PIASS (well, their older stuff anyway, lol Takayuki can't sing for shit) and Aliene Ma'riage. There's just some kinds of painful noise I can't stand, and at least half of Merry's songs in the past year or so are among those.

Sorry to point out the obvious, but Monochrome is the first new song they've released in over a year.

That said, I don't know how anyone can not like under-world. I think it's amazing. And original to the max. Which is why this sudden drop in quality is so shocking to me. I think productionwise NCR is the least ear-friendly. Still love it though.

lol Yeah, I went and looked up dates just now cuz I wasn't sure when they released stuff since I haven't really been keeping up, but my point still stands that their latest (in a release sense if not time-wise) doesn't appeal to me for the most part. When I start disliking more songs than I like, that's when I stop paying much attention to the band (and release dates, lol, though I can never keep track of those anyway).

I feel the same way. -_- I've loved this band for years for Gara's voice and intricate instrumentals. I managed to get through M.E.R.R.Y. and tozasareta rakuen and enjoy them, but there have been only a few songs since that time. I still consider Merry to be one of my two favorite bands because I love their old sound so much but I still feel saddened by this. They lost their spark, I feel.

at times even what to say I find it not at all as bad as they evolve in this direction, but as I said it is in the end just really just a matter of taste to like it just once and the other not. But the fact that they change we can't change anything, it is as either we accept that, like what they do or do not then that is up to you. I for my part love what they did, love what they do and will be no matter what happens behind the band stand.

I still love them, but their new sound is simply not one I like. Because I love them so much as a band, I do, and will, still continue to try but I now find fewer and fewer songs I enjoy.

It is the nature of man, and thus of bands, to grow and change. Not everyone is obligated to like these changes. *shrugs*

Yeah, their music has really taken a slow dive. :| It's kind of sad because they used to be on my top ten best bands ever list, and now... only about 4 of the bands on there are bands I still like. ._. Maybe I've just gotten pickier, idk lol, but I'm just so disillusioned with their stuff since M.E.R.R.Y. that I can't quite bring myself to bother much anymore.

Lol, Slow Dive. And yet that sums it up perfectly.

mte. It's not that their new music sounds BAD or sth, it's just not what I'd expect from them. They had their own style, they could make some awesome music, and now they're just making what other bands could also do. Plus this style doesn't suit Gara's voice imo, and since I'm one to pay attention to vocalists more than anything else, I'm even more frustrated by the direction they're taking.
