Haunted Overload

Last night we went up to Haunted Overload in NH. We had gone previously 2 years ago and I was torn by the experience. I loved the visuals, but really hated dealing with the actors. I don't like being startled. I know the rule is "touch nothing and nothing will touch you", but I stop thinking logically in the dark.

This year we went for "Fright Night Lite" and loved it. It's the full tour with all the sounds, lights, and some costumed characters, but none of the scare actors. There were very few guests and we could linger and look at the sets. And as a bonus for me, three of my 'stuming friends were working and they could drop character and we could chat a bit. Two other 'stumers from down south were taking the tour in advance of working, so it was like a mini-Victorian Secret reunion.

Also, as soon as we got close to the farm where the haunt lives, a fog rolled in...

I can not even begin to describe the epic awesomeness of this haunt. You can check out the pictures in their gallery, but it doesn't give a sense of the scale of how huge some of the structures are, nor the attention to detail.

Because it was the "lite" night, they allowed flash photos. I tried to take a couple, but the fog made it difficult.

This is the ossuary, or at least part of one wall. See what I mean about the detail?

Shortly after this we stopped in our tracks. There was a three story Victorian mansion looming out of the fog. Just incredible.

After we finished the haunt and got our hot cider & donuts at the farm store, we drove only a little ways down the road and suddenly the fog lifted.

Highly, highly recommended. Proceeds go to a local humane society, so you can feel good about being spooked. And there's a pretty good barbecue restaurant on the way if you take route 125.
