Mother has now been in the QMC, Nottingham for 16 days. During this time they've found out precisely zero. OK they did some tests and an endoscopy a week ago which eliminated some thing, since then - nada
We hear a lot about hspitals rushing people in & out, but they just don't seem to be treating this with any sense of urgency whatsoever. It's driving me up walls and round the bend - and back again.
On Friday I spoke to the consultant in charge. He made ominous noises about brain tumours and the need for a scan. The scan has not happened. No-one can say when the scan might be.
In the meantime poor mother is in a ward with no TV, no phone, no nothing. Not allowed to use her mobile. It's possibly the yeukkiest hospital I've ever seen. Heck, when I was in hospital when I was 9 you at least got a radio thing that came out the wall to listen to hopsital radio - dire, but better than nothing.
Last week there was a mad old lady in the next bed who nicked her things. We retrieved everything but her fleece, ho hum
Her hand is black (no exaggeration) with brusing where someone failed to find a vein; she hasn't been given a hair wash and they allowed her to walk (she went in after a fall); but she fell and needed 3 stiches in her head. I mean WTF - they tell her to walk to the toilet and are surprised when the same thing happens that put her in there!
I go there and nag, ring and nag (nicely of course - or what passes as nicely from me!), and nothing happens.
Mother's friends can't visit (too far and they're all old) and the consultant won't transfer her anywhere nearer (for which he gave a plausible explanation - which would have been fine if everything wasn't taking so damned long)
So poor mother has pretty much lost the will to live. She can't keep food down; has no entertainment and, as a very private person, is surrounded by people who are at best patronising (my mother has many faults, stupidity isn't, in the main, one of them), at worst bordering on bullying
This sucks
