My life is thrilling

May 29, 2010 14:01

Hi, flist! Due to everything being fubar on Thursday (seriously, Thursday, what the hell even was that?) I am here in the lab finishing up a Northern blot on a Saturday. What joy. Also I have mad amounts of buffers to make so I will probably be here until the evening. FML!

I am bored, and 80% of the American flisties are off having good times on their long weekend. Sigh.

Other things:

-Yesterday was akamine_chan's birthday! Yay, aka! Also, because the world hearts irony I received my birthday card from Aka yesterday. It was full of BATS. Glitter bats. I approve. Thanks, aka, ilu! ♥

-It is no longer 35 degrees in my apartment thank fuck. Still warm, though, with the windows open and the fans blasting. Whenever I get my tax refund I am going air conditioner shopping. (Seriously, Canada Revenue, where is my money?)

-I got my notice of rent increase and my chance to renew my lease this week. I know tenancy laws vary province-to-province, let alone internationally, but what are your thoughts on resigning a year's lease versus going month-to-month? I have no plans or desire to move between this September 1st and next, so is it all basically equal?

-Attention SPN fic writers: Dean Winchester has never in his entire existence said, thought or otherwise employed the word "arse." (I mean, it's a perfectly cromulent word, a great word even, but Dean still doesn't use it. IJS.)

-If it is not too warm in my apartment this evening or tomorrow, I think I will try making
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Crust:
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened

Filling:
2 eggs, beaten with fork
3/4 granulated sugar
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder*
~1 tsp grated lemon zest
Juice of one lemon (or 3 tbsp. concentrate)
Icing (confectioner’s) sugar

1. In a medium bowl, blend together 1 1/3 cups of the flour, 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar and butter until mixture is crumbly. Press into bottom of 8 inch square baking pan. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

2. In a small bowl, beat together remaining granulated sugar, eggs, 2 tbsp of the flour, baking powder, lemon zest and lemon juice. Pour filling over hot crust. Bake for another 15 minutes or until filling is set. Cool in pan on wire rack. Sprinkle with icing sugar. Cut into squares.
NOTE: This recipe may be doubled and put into a 9 X 12 inch pan.

My Aunt makes them and they are amaaaazinggg, and they look mad easy. I'll have to buy eggs and a lemon. And possibly a baking pan, because I don't think I own one. I don't know about the baking powder mentioned in the second step, either, since it isn't mentioned in the ingredients list. *emails aunt*

-Ooh, I just found an iPod speaker set buried under all coworker (co-student?) D's stuff. And it works with my iPod Touch! *dances in the lab*

my life is so exciting, i am not making an spn tag dammit, i like tags, argh, food, scientific progress goes 'boink'?, i want another degree for some reason, query, segues are for the weak, birthdays, random, talking about the weather again, boredom
