Bad Timing

Oct 17, 2008 20:27

I know I can be a bit of a reactionary old second-wave feminist who gets her (handwoven beige hemp) knickers in a twist about matters of terminology that other people consider unimportant, but did it really not strike the creator of this that it might be a little odd to chose this particular title for this particular product?  Can anyone say 'Patriarchal Bio-Medical Colonisation of Women's Eternal Mysteries'?  (It's also wrong in so many ways - imposition of false precision onto something inherently variable and subjective, potential to create impression of lack of progress leading to unnecessary interventions, and anyway who wants to sit pressing a space bar when you're having the sort of contractions that make it hard to time them?)

No, not in any imminent need of any method of timing contractions.  And the midwife's inability to perform a stretch-and-sweep yesterday (ow, ow, ow) suggests that it's going to be a while yet.
