Oh yes, I'd forgotten the younger Enid Blytons. I bet they'd love the Faraway Tree. D proposes the Phantom Tolbooth, but I think they're too young and would get scared and that he's just keen because it's one of his favourite books evah.
Dilly the Dinosaur! Might be a bit short on pictures for LB, but there definitely are some. These were actually my sister's books, but I liked to borrow them when she wasn't looking.
Milly-Molly-Mandy? The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, maybe.
Milly-Molly-Mandy! Genius. They are getting increasingly gender conscious and not wanting 'girlish' stuff (pink chiefly), which makes me very cross (about society mainly - girls get pink and maybe mauve and boys get all the other colours! That's not fair). And I'm very aware of how many of their books have male protagonists, so M-M-M's gender will be another asset.
I don't think I know The Owl, but other people have recommended it too, so I will investigate. Also Dilly. Thank you1
Yes, M-M-M is spot on, and I'd forgotten Teddy Robinson, despite having bought one for my niece who is PB's age. And thanks for the other recommendations too.
I liked the Roald Dahl one about poaching (Fantastic Mr Fox?) where the boy and his dad were likeable, but I too wasn't very keen on the others. It may indeed have been for lack of likeable characters, now I think about it.

Or a different Roald Dahl? The BFG or The Twits?
