OLD LOL!
My secretary begged Mr. Victus to give me a DS for my birthday so I'd stop stealing his to play Elite Beat Agents on lunch breaks (this is a game that takes place in a universe where you can summon male cheerleaders to perform song and dance routines to help you with tasks like getting a job, coping with the death of a parent, and preventing the heat death of the universe. It's not quite up there with Katamari Damacy on the 'WTF!' scale but it's, uh, something. A good something, though!) Mr. Victus apparently made it be known to anyone who asked that I should be given DS games, and... everybody got me Phoenix Wright!
I understand the busman's holiday idea, really I do, but, um, wow. I was biting my cheeks when I was presented with the third one; when I was given the fourth one, I had to stand up and turn away to keep from laughing. (I hope believe the giver thinks I was so moved and touched I was on the verge of tears; this is good!) Nevertheless, I have been told several times today how difficult it is to find copies of the game, so if there are any of you out there who have been pining after it, do let me know; better you than EBay.
An hour or two playing with it and I am not quite wildly in love, but I'm pretty sure it's going to happen soon. Though I've always loved Nintendo handhelds, the DS, up until I got the chance to play with it, was just too weird for me. It looks like a Trio and you play games by petting it with a stylus? Wtf? Just didn't interest me. But now that I have one to really mess with, I'm mad I didn't buy it years ago; I've deprived myself, and you are, too, if you don't have one. It is not quite as fantastic as the Wii, but I understand where they got the idea now, and I approve.
However, for once, I find myself spoiled for choice. We've been next gen for awhile now, so I'm used to anxiously awaiting the next interesting sounding release; having a few years' backlog of excellent games to choose from is stunning! I have Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright 1 and 2, and love them all (well, I haven't played Phoenix Wright 2 yet, but unless it's a radical departure from the first one, I'm sure I'll adore it), but there's just so much out there I'm not sure what to choose next. The only thing is that I'm not really interested in buying another set of Final Fantasy remakes just yet. And I've schismed with Castlevania over Lament of Sorrow--Sonia is the first Belmont, god damn it. So:
What Nintendo DS games do you consider absolute must-haves? I'm open to pretty much every genre, but I'd particularly like things that really showcase the DS's unique potential; games with quicksave options, that I can pick up for ten or fifteen minutes here and there, would also be preferred.
