Joy!

The Dyson arrived! And it seems to work fine! (Perhaps a little tempermental on a couple of the buttons but I can deal with that). Hooray! There will be much vacuuming in my future.

And my new breadmaker arrived as well. The old one fell off the counter one too many times, so we didn't move it with us. The new one is a different brand, but nearly identical and an awesome steal on EBay. Can't wait to use it. I'm thinking of splurging and making some cinnamon raisin bread. We use it the most for pizza dough, but that probably won't happen too much lately now that Jeff's delivering for Domino's. (Did I mention that, Livejournal? Not sure...it's only until his other contract picks back up, but it's been....interesting).

And in a string of good things, I decided to apply for as many "home improvement" sweepstakes as I could find, and would you believe I am actually a "weekly winner" in a contest from DutchBoy Paint and have won 2 gallons of paint!  It's very cool, except that they're going to mail us the paint in 4-6 weeks, so it can't be for our immediate projects and we're not quite sure what we should get.

Finally, we got word today that we've been approved for a Home Depot Project loan-- we're getting a new basement door and gutters installed. With our line of credit, we're also going to pick up a new dryer, probably tomorrow. We've had very mixed luck with craigslist (We are currently using a craigslist washer, but we didn't pay close enough attention to what we were getting, and it only has two settings: large and small, but NO heat settings. WTF? Also, it doesn't have enough water pressure to force the water up and out the drain, so it leaks. Not a lot-- about half a cup per load, but thank Goodness we don't have the basement finished yet. We'll replace the washer later...might as well get our $125 worth first). We've been hanging our wash on a line in the basement-- probably should hang a line outside but we haven't gotten to it yet. That's great for the environment and cheaper, but with it hanging in the basement right now, it's not too helpful-- it's musty down there so everything is stiff and slightly stale smelling. Ew. But money for a new dryer? Yay.  (And the loan is interest free for 6 months, so hopefully we can have the dryer paid for by then).

These happy things mostly make up for the comedy of errors that was my morning. We volunteered to make a big batch of sloppy joe mix for the local soup kitchen, so yesterday we drove to the big cheap grocery store in Portsmouth to buy 3 pounds of ground beef (we planned to use two in the sloppy joe mix and the rest for us).  Fast forward to this morning when we realized that somehow the ground beef never got put away last night. It was on the counter...behind some boxes. So after already making a trip out this morning to drop Max off at summer school, I made another trip out to get the meat, then another to deliver the sloppy joe mix to the church. It's only noon and I'm tired. Of course Jeff drives a hundred miles a night for his job, but I'm not used to it. At least not when it's under the time crunch of "Argh, I can't believe I left three pounds of ground beef on the counter all night and never noticed and now I have to hurry and make this stuff that I should have made last night...!!!!"

But hey, I have a Dyson now. And a breadmaker.  And eventually new paint. I am happy.
