The process of moving doesn't just mean moving from one town to another or one house to another. It means moving. Getting up and down when you'd rather remain collapsed. Moving boxes all over. Upstairs, downstairs. Into the basement. Out of the basement. Out of the closet. Back into the closet. We "moved in" on the 15th of June, but we're still moving. Hopefully we'll have everything out of the storage unit by this Wednesday. If so, we get about 2 weeks of storage rent refunded to us, which would be nice (esp since the unit is $181/month). We're almost there, really. Just a few dining chairs and boxes left, plus one more futon rail.
Done so far (besides the obvious moving of boxes and furniture):
1) Master bedroom bed assembled (thank you, Jeff!!): we LOVE our bed and have been without it for nearly a year, so this is marvelous!
2) Computer desk and printer table assembled and computer set up. Needless to say, in this family, having the computer and wifi up and running is a top priority.
3) Bottom bunk of bunk bed assembled (just finished that this evening-- Max had been on a foam bed on the floor for the past two weeks-- he was fine with it, but it's time to move on).
4) Media cabinet in place and tv/cable/dvd set up. (Sad to say, this is a big part of what makes it feel like home for ME...)
5) 98% of the kitchen cabinets are filled...not sure what to with the rest of the boxes of kitchen stuff...
6) A table in the basement has been designated for yard sale items (see #5). I've only ever done one yard sale before, but since craigslist is not terribly fertile around here, and yard sales ARE, it seems a good option. Plus, the boys have been pestering me to make a lemonade stand, so that would be great to keep them busy while we're having it. Maybe early August. That will give me time to winnow out the boxes of books as well. We already have at least 2 boxes of kids clothes we moved north with us because we hadn't had time to sell them (yes, we should have donated them...I realize this now).
7) Painted master bedroom (before and after pix are on facebook)
Left to do (partial list!):
1) Assemble top bunk of the bunk beds (praying we have the right number of screws in the baggie...)
2) Assemble the futon (it's going to be a tight fit in the library...)
3) Sweep and vacuum the entire basement, particularly the one carpeted room. (The dyson still hasn't arrived...)
4) Assemble the bed in the guest bedroom.
5) Paint the hallway (The kitchen and hall are both bright yellow. We're keeping the kitchen yellow because it can be subdued by the other things in the room, but the hallway has got to go).
6) Pressure wash the deck and siding (Jeff started this and will finish it soon)
7) Stain the deck and reinforce the joists (it's a nice deck, but we're a little scared of its stability).
8) Paint the trim in preparation for getting gutters put on the next few weeks.
9) Somehow unpack or otherwise stow the rest of the boxes upstairs.
10) Paint front door Tardis blue (I'd pledged to do this in the first two weeks, but, well...yeah).
My brother and his wife are coming through next week on their way back from the lake, and even though they're super understanding about the move, I want things to be mostly done by then.
There are a lot of other things we want to do too, including "mid-range" things like insulating the basement and putting in a walkway to the front door and longer-range things like a bathroom downstairs, floor in the middle basement room, bringing my piano from my parents' house, etc. but the list above consists of things that we want to accomplish in the next couple weeks or so.
Now to decide what to unpack tonight. Thank goodness school is out.
