It had been a week since Castiel had gone missing. Sam had left Dean to go on a wild goose chase to find Castiel. Dean didn't look for Castiel because he missed him, no, Dean looked for Castiel because he felt guilty about the angel missing. Castiel did take on an archangel to help Dean save Sam. So, now Dean was driving around the country looking for an angel who was M.I.A. all because that stupid angel had to be a friend and help Dean try to save the world. Dean didn't miss the angel's company. He didn't miss the angel's mesmerizing blue eyes, or his subtle head tilts when he was confused. Dean didn't miss that stupid angel, and even if he did, he was too stubborn to say it out loud.

Dean didn't need anyone. He had survived for a good portion of his life by himself. Sam had gone off to college, and his dad had just disappeared. He didn't need anyone, not even the stupid angel that insisted on staying by his side. Sam had taken off after they had defeated Lucifer, going back to college, to try to live a normal life. While Dean continued to hunt the things that go bump in the night, but he wasn't alone. He had an annoying angel for a sidekick now. An angel that Dean hadn't even asked for. Hell, if Dean had his way, the angel would have gone back to Heaven with the rest of his brothers and sisters. At least, that's what Dean wanted everyone else to think. That's what he wanted to think. He was too proud to say he needed Castiel anyway, that was, if he needed Castiel, which he didn't.

Castiel had been by Dean's side through a lot of stuff. They had fought in the Apocalypse together, and they had fought after the Apocalypse together. They were as close as Sam and Dean were, maybe even closer. They barely left each others side, too worried that the other would die if they weren't near each other. Throughout the whole experience, Dean had felt himself growing closer to the angel. Dean noticed the simple things about the angel, like how his head always tilted to the right when he was confused, or how Castiel reacted when he learned about a new emotion, and what that emotion entitled. The one thing Dean noticed first, and the one that occurred most often, was how the distance between the pair when they were standing together grew smaller and smaller till there was no gap. They would stand next to each other, shoulders touching, their hands grazing as they walked. Soon, they would get only one bed at the motels they stayed at, growing closer every day. It was raining when Dean realized how he really felt about the angel that was now showering, Dean was in love. Dean Winchester was in love, Dean Winchester. It was a shame that Dean was too scared to tell Castiel that he loved him.
