Today was probably the least stressful day for me at VBS. The technology was working great, I got the "Spotlight VBS" slideshow done in record time, and everything ran very smoothly. Audrey wasn't there with us, which was actually kind of a bummer. She was talking to me about VBS in the morning and really wanted to go again. She went to preschool today because a.) we're paying for 2 days a week and b.) I had to go in to work after VBS and couldn't take her along with me. Flash Forward to the evening: after her bath, we were talking about VBS again and I started singing the theme song. Audrey TOTALLY sang along! She knew the words to the chorus! I was so happily surprised! The singing and dancing really is her favorite part :)
The kids learned about Jesus' death and resurrection today and the key Bible point was "Even when you do wrong... Jesus loves you!" I sat in during the Bible story today. My friend Megan has been leading that and doing a phenomenal job. She really sets the tone well for each day's lesson. I sat in during the older kids' group and got chills a few times as I watched them interact with the story and process this amazing thing Jesus did for us. One child in particular stood out to me because it seemed like he had not heard the story before. It was really special to watch him experience it for seemingly the first time.
Great day!
In domestic news, I made "not from the box" macaroni and cheese this evening. The recipe came from a shredded cheese bag from Stater Bros but it turned out tasting really good! You boil the pasta as you normally would. For the cheese you melt butter then stir in flour, salt, and a little bit of pepper. Then you add 2 cups of milk and 2 cups of cheese and just stir until it's all melted. Oh, you also add some dry mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Then you pour the cheese over the pasta and voila! It tasted great - both Audrey and I gobbled it up! (Jeff missed out since he's at youth group on Thursday nights.) We also had succotash and mango with the pasta.
