Today was the last day of State Testing for my 5th grade students and the first day of Growth & Development lessons - hurray!
At 1pm, I found myself in a classroom full of 10 year-old-girls, sitting nervously waiting to see what these "growth & development" lessons were all about. Today's lessons introduced puberty and all the changes your body goes through plus body image and how to conquer body odor and acne. Fun.
Anyway, while I was teaching them, I kept having mini-flashbacks about my 5th grade year and learning about all this stuff, first at home from my mom and then at school. I remember feeling so awkward around boys and embarrassed about my maturing self. Keeping all this in mind, I did my best to keep the classroom environment relaxed and kind. The girls left saying things like "this was fun" and "see you Wednesday!" It was fun and I am looking forward to Wednesday. I like having "Girl Time" :)
Once I got home and shared about my day with Jeff, he brought up the fact that we... rather, *I* will have to have these same kinds of conversations with Audrey when she gets older. That's pretty crazy to think about!
Additionally, Jeff & I realized that even though we went through "growth & development" lessons and we know how "the birds and the bees" work, it still blows our mind that we created another human being! It's so amazing that God lets us humans participate in the creation process. What a blessing!
Here are some pictures of me and my little blessing, Audrey, at Lincoln Park. We went a few Sundays ago when Audrey decided to take a 2.5 hour nap and consequently sleep through church!
