The Lost Boy

It’s Contrary Jane Bobbie Sue Sarah Lou Sarah Jane Adventures time again.

The Lost Boy - Part One

Finally they took the farting away from the Slitheen and also the dead giveaway plumpness. It actually makes the Slitheen capable of being a menacing threat without having to rely on Annette Badlands (seriously, I can’t sing her praises enough for Boom Town). Now if they only hadn’t taken on the skin suits.

And I predicted Mr. Smith would be evil. Ha! Hopefully next week we’ll get some indication as to how Sarah came about to have him in her attic in the first place, because I for one am curious. Loved Mr. Smith ‘entering’ unwontedly with Sarah alone in the attic, is was quite creepy. I wonder if the public humiliation aspect for Sarah, that she's going to be known as a woman so desperate for a child she stole someone else's, was part of Mr. Smith's evil master plan, or just an added bonus, because it's the former, that computer is Eeeevil (as opposed to just plain old evil). I was just thinking of the amount of pity and disgust that we all have for the women who steal children in real life and it's really really cruel to have the whole world think that of Sarah.

Oh, Sarah, running off a list of people for whom that day would be the greatest day of their lives to distract herself and Luke from the rather obvious fact it’s got to be the worst of hers - that broke my heart, more so than the initial discovery and the being dragged away by the police bit.

Yay for Clyde getting to investigate all by himself. Shame about the lack of Clyde & Luke being in the same scene at the same time though. I kind of torn between loving their friendship for being such a wonderful friendship, and wanting to ship them. I think I may do both.

And you know what, no matter what she does, I still can’t help but like Chrissie. How can you not like the character that constantly cannot remember Sarah Jane’s name? Plus, if you didn't know the truth about Luke's origin, it kind of is irresponsible not to report Sarah to the police.

Alan, as always, is such a brilliant Dad. I’d call him the best Dad on telly if it wasn’t for the fact I watch Heroes, so I’ll go with the greatest Dad on telly who doesn’t wear glasses. And while I felt his conversation from ‘we’re moving’ to ‘we’re involved in all this space stuff’ happened a little too quickly, it was nice that Maria got to do the speech about the universe. She so is mini Sarah.

Though at the end of the day, I think this episode felt little flat for me compared to ever episode from Eye of the Gorgon onwards. Maybe it’s the return on the Slitheen. Of all the aliens of SJA, they were last I would wish to make a repeat appearance. And maybe it was because it was trying to fit too much in: Alan coming to terms with the universe and his daughters place in it, Sarah and Luke being split up, Sarah pushing Maria away, Sarah, Luke and Clyde all having plots and the reveal of not one but two big bads, I have a feeling this two-parter has enough plot for three episodes.
