I always thought that Chrissie's bungling of Sarah Jane's name was a deliberate slight borne out of a certain jealousy of her relationship with Maria. I think Chrissie feels a little bit threatened by Maria's obvious hero-worship of Sarah and all the time she spends with her. This doesn't stop me from liking Chrissie's character, however. And I think that, given how well Maria's turned out, Chrissie can't be as bad a mother as some people assume

I quite like the idea of a fuming and jealous Chrissie thinking up names to call Sarah Jane. And I agree with you, I don't think Chrissie is as bad a mother as some think, and you've got to like the character for being conscious of and being capable of admitting her failings. I actually kind of feel sorry for her, because she seems to have got it into her head that she cannot, no matter how hard she tries, be the woman Alan and Maria want her to be. Maybe if there's a next season her and Sarah need to have a sit down and a chat about motherhood insecurities.

Somebody somewhere (I can't remember who) said that it would have been nice if there was a story between Whatever...and The Lost Boy to focus on Alan coming to terms with it, which I think would have been great. Just a shame the season doesn't have more episodes in which they could have done that.
