Hi! I translated Sexy Zone's crosstalks from the June issue of Potato. The theme is "refresh."
I really had fun translating both crosstalks because there were funny parts like Kento and Fuma's sauna talk. There were serious parts as well like Shori's advice to Marius, which we can learn from too.
I hope you enjoy reading! :)
Theme: Refresh
Even if I send photos of my pet dog, everyone just ignores them?!
Marius: My method to refresh myself is to travel abroad, go for massages, go for a stretch, and to do facial.
Shori: Facial and massage? I can’t keep up. (laughs)
Marius: Oh and sleep a lot. I also rent a car to enjoy nature and go to outlet stores to buy clothes. Something like that.
Shori: What are outlet stores like abroad?
Marius: I recommend Italy’s outlet stores. They are full of various brands.
Shori: Can dogs go in?
Marius: Do you want to go with a dog?
Shori: When I went in an outlet store in New York, there was water for dogs as a service. At that time, I thought that it’s a developed country for pets. My method to refresh are dogs as expected. Look, she’s cute right? *Shows a photo of Chai (his pet dog) to Marius*
Marius: Cute~
Shori: Mou, she’s “egukawa” <3
Marius: What’s “egukawa?”
Shori: It means, “she’s so cute that it’s painful.”
Marius: Hee~ It’s possible that there’s a name like “Egukawa” with the kanji “river (read as kawa) on it.
Shori: It’s possible. Whenever I go back home, Chai welcomes me and gives off a feeling like she’s been waiting for me. She’s so cute. But even if I send photos of my dog to Marius…
Marius: There are times I ignore him. (laughs)
Shori: He just ignores (seen) my messages. Unbelievable! I don’t understand that feeling [of ignoring someone’s message].
Marius: That’s not it. I thought it was cute, but I forgot to reply. (laughs)
Shori: There’s a lot of people like that around me. Kishi (Yuta) is like that too.
Marius: I want to be friends with Kishi-kun!
Shori: Even if you exchange contact numbers with Kishi, nothing will start because none of you will reply to each other’s messages. (laughs)
Marius: I wonder? But when you sent me a photo of your dog, she had a very healing expression.
Shori: We’re back with that topic. (laughs) When you gain knowledge while studying, you look like you let off stress.
Marius: I do. In this world, I don’t know what is right or wrong. But I get to know the distinction between the two with studying and knowledge, so I feel refreshed. However, I’m not good in changing my mood. Shori-kun is an expert in that aspect. It’s like you’re partly in your off mode even if you’re actually on your on mode (note: in terms of mood).
Shori: Maybe you’re right. Of course, I start my engine depending on the situation, but I think it’s important to be myself. (note: “I start my engine depending on the situation” means he acts and changes his mood depending on the situation) Marius doesn’t have an on or off mode. During concerts, there are times when his mood ends up being in on mode like when he says “Fuuu~!” to hype up the audience. But after a few minutes, his mood goes back to off mode. You’re really human-like. (laughs) (note: I think Shori means that Marius can’t control the change in his mood; that Marius can’t control when to switch on or off his mood, ending up showing his real mood.)
Marius: Yeah, I can’t control my mood! (laughs)
Worried Marius gets advice from Shori
Shori: I don’t see a fresh side of Marius recently. Rather, I think your fresh side will come out after you turn 20 years old. I’m looking forward to it.
Marius: [A fresh side of] Shori-kun~
Shori: None, right? It’s because you don’t look at me, right? (laughs)
Marius: When we were in the car last time, you talked about doing activities abroad.
Shori: I did. It might be the first time.
Marius: The progress regarding SNS among Johnny’s groups is starting too. I heard Shori-kun’s thoughts about that as well.
Marius: When I turn 20 years old, I need to think more about my responsibilities as an adult. I’ve been pretending not to think too much up until now. I don’t understand it fully, but I want to climb into adulthood. What do you think should I do?
Shori: You’ve been in this industry since you were young, so I think there have been a lot of times when you were held back to do something you want to do. But I think it would be good if you could find a way to do those things properly.
Marius: I see.
Shori: It’s like this in any work, but you will sometimes find that you’re restricted to do something you 100% want to do. People in their teenage years would think, “I’ll give up because I can’t do it.” But people in their 20s should think like, “I’ll do it as I want, but there are things that I can’t and shouldn’t do, so I will do good things."
Marius: What about people in their 30s?
Shori: I still haven’t experienced it, so I don’t know. (laughs) But Marius is intelligent, so you will find a way [to do the things that you want to do]. You heard something good from me, right?
Marius: Yes. Thank you. I’m happy.
Shori: Then what did I just say?
Marius: …. I remember it.
Shori: You’re like a kid. (laughs) “Do you understand why you’re being scolded?”
“I understand.”
Your response was like a kid who says he understands, but, doesn’t!
Theme: Refresh
Kikuchi saying, “I don’t want to see this kind of Nakajima Kento…!?”
Kento: I’m bad in switching my mood. I dwell on various things. For example, when I got last place in “Gurunai Gochi (variety show that Kento was in from 2018 until 2019),” I dwelled on it even the next day. (laughs)
Fuma: In my case, even if I dwell on something, it won’t have a positive effect. That’s why I don’t carry it over to the next day. I sleep then reset myself.
Kento: You seem like you’ll go for a drive whenever you want to be refreshed.
Fuma: Ah~ There are times when I go for long drives with friends because above all, I feel refreshed when I’m with friends. You seem like you feel refreshed with shopping.
Kento: Indeed, I do go out to shop. Compared with the actual act of buying, I like that part of shopping when I talk with clerks whom I’m good friends with more. There are many ways to be refreshed, but I personally want to recommend scented candles for Kikuchi. Just putting it in your room will definitely change the mood.
Fuma: I like candles. I use if often in the bath. I can just watch its flame forever.
Kento: I understand. I’ve used candles in the bath before as well.
Fuma: Ah, but I have never placed candles in my room before.
Kento: I certainly want you to try using candles in your room because it’s soothing.
Fuma: I want to recommend sauna to Nakajima. I usually go to saunas. It feels good. Your sweat will flow even for people who don’t sweat much. I think saunas sound good for you, who has an image of someone sweating all the time.
Kento: I actually go to hidden saunas. (note: I think he refers to saunas for one person? Sorry I’m not very familiar with what term to use for those.)
Fuma: Hee~ that’s unexpected.
Kento: However, the sauna place that I go to doesn’t have a water bath. I can’t do open-air baths. That’s what I’m worried about. Sauna >> water bath >> open-air bath as a set. It’s a sauna for this reason, right?
Fuma: The place I often go to is a normal public bath, so you can do open-air baths too. But, introducing Nakajima to that place is a bit… That place doesn’t feel like Nakajima. Somehow, I don’t like it if Nakajima Kento is there [in the sauna that I often go to]. (laughs)
Kento: Fufu (laughs)
Fuma: I want Nakajima to go to a hidden house-like sauna. A dimly lit sauna with flickering candles. (laughs) On the other hand, normal public baths have saunas with TVs. When I was there one time, Gurunai Gochi was airing and I watched it.
Kento: Was that from when I was still in it?
Fuma: Yup. I don’t want to see a Nakajima Kento sweating while watching Gochi episodes that he doesn’t appear in anymore!
Kento: My tears will flow more than my sweat. (laughs) When I’m feeling down, going to saunas is great.
Fuma: It feels refreshing.
Kento: We are Saunazu (note: Japanese TV show where they go to different saunas). (laughs)
Felt fresh [because of] new hairstyle and appearing in variety shows
Fuma: Recently, what I felt fresh is Nakajima’s hairstyle. Although it’s for your role in the drama, I think the current length of your hair is just right. The last time I saw your hair this short was when we were still juniors. I feel like you filmed a drama [the last time you cut your hair this short] before too. Your short hair from before was also good but getting short hair after becoming an adult is even better after all.
Kento: I’m happy. Recently, Kikuchi has been called to appear in variety shows a lot. As a member watcher (note: someone who watches the activities of all members), I want to watch all of them as much as possible, but I can’t keep up because you appear in too many variety shows. I haven’t seen that happen before, so it feels fresh.
Fuma: It feels like getting called [in many variety shows] piled up by chance.
Kento: Among those, the one that made a strong impact was when they pranked you while you were naked. That was another level.
Fuma: There were a lot of people who told me that their image of me has changed after watching that. But it wasn’t my choice to have an image change. I’m still who I am.
Kento: Also, the time when you did a location shoot for “Aiseki Shokudou (variety show).” I saw that episode where you took down your towel without hiding anything in front of the camera and went in the hot spring. That was unbelievable.
Fuma: My bare side was just shown. (note: not everything was seen. Just his butt)
Kento: Well, I’ve already seen his butt up close. (triumphant look) You show it to us when you’re fooling around during rehearsals too. (laughs)
Fuma: I just naturally end up showing it.
Kento: When you do that, I just can’t help but laugh. I can’t win against that. (laughs)
Note: Japanese and English are not my native language, so I apologize if it might not be 100% accurate.
