Ok, so there is a reason I have been a quite pissed today(and people who know me will vouch that I rarely ever get pissed).
There is a vehicle launch in mexico which I have been expecting to goto for over a month now. However without proper sign offs from people high up in my company, no travel is official. Finally, on wednesday I was officially informed that I would be going , that I would be leaving on monday the 13th of March and be gone for a week. At this point I informed them that I would need a visa to goto mexico.(Yes, those of you who have the privilege of being born in the US may not know, but people from other countries usually need a visa to goto mexico.) So, I thought no problem, read the details on the mexican consulates website, got the proper documentation and I told my boss I would be going to detroit on Friday morning to get my visa.
Just to make sure I called the consulate. Well guess what the lady tells me that since I am from India it will take them 4 weeks to process my application. When I asked her why this was so she proceeded to tell me that India had been classified amongst other countries as "questionable". So since I didnt have a green card and I was a citizen of India I would have to undergo 4 weeks of processing. I proceeded to tell her that I had US authorization and Canadian authorization, but she just apologized and said that she didnt make the rules.
She was very nice and apologized at least 3 times. It was not her fault, but I can't help but question a system which thinks that an Indian would travel half way around the world and actually want to goto mexico (of all places) to start some trouble. Anyway, I proceeded to tell a lot of people at work that they were dumbasses (in traditional "Red" fashion from that 70's show).
So, the final decision is that I will not be going to mexico. The good part is that I will be here for St.Patrick's day. I sure hope I get hammered cos I know I would have if I were to be in Mexico.
