Of course I know nothing about XDs, but this looks complicated. More power to ya! What's the point in having a gun is you can know and love it inside and out? Cheers!

A lot of the complexity is due to the extras the XD has that say a Glock or similar polymer handgun does not have. There is an extra part, spring and pin for the loaded chamber indicator. There is another two extra parts and a spring for the internal striker safety (I don't think a Glock has this due to the fact that striker is not fully cocked in a glock). There is also the grip safety and its pin and spring. Finally there is an extra part or two for the striker cocked indicator. You could loose all those parts and the XD would still function.

Cool. I was hoping that those little fiddly springs up top didn't do anything crucial. In thinking about this post, I've realized that there are certain classes of device that should never have any part smaller than my thumbnail. These include, but are not limited to, any vehicle intended to be operated half a mile or further from a well-maintained maintenance area and any firearm intended and/or marketed as an antipersonnel offensive or anti-anything defensive weapon. The fact that it even has fiddly bits annoys me, but it's good that they don't perform critical functions.
