New, to me, bike.

I got a new bike Friday. Its a long term loaner from a co-worker's brother-in-law. My first road bike. It's a bit old, as far as I have been able to research its a 2003 Giant OCR 3.

When I got it Friday it needed a good bit of work. Headset and the crack axle cartridge was loose surprising my crank puller and cartridge wrench work on the roadie parts. Needed a new tube in the front and a few other minor adjustments. Got most of that done Friday evening and finished it up today after church.

While Abby took her nap I rode by usual 25 mile route. It was actually about 25.8 miles today and I manage to do it averaging 15.2 mph. Not bad give I had to stop twice and dig out my hex wrenches to adjust the seat post. It is impressive how much faster the road bike is than my old mountain bike over the same course, especially on the climb. I think it will get even faster as I get the bike tuned up and get comfortable with it.

One thing I don't like is how much less braking power you have with the caliper brakes and skinny tires. The shifters integrated into the brake levers also makes the levers want to move away from your finger sometime when you reach out for them and don't reach out far enough. I am sure I will get use to it after a few more rides.

Anyway below is a picture of the bike. The Cannondale is my old 1998 F900 mountain bike and the Giant is the new used road bike.
