18. The greatest reward
So suddenly, so strange
Life wakes you up, things change.
I’ve done my best, I’ve served my call,
I thought I had it all!
I’m in the nursery with Calliope. There’s this cute little boy but his chance to survive the next few days is very little. His mother can’t be with him. There were some comlications during the birth and she’s too fragile to hold him. So I do it everyday. He shouldn’t be alone all the time. The rest of his family doesn’t visit him. They don’t care about him. They’re just worried about the mother. I mean, I understand that they’re scared of losing her but how can they leave this little boy alone? He doesn’t even have a name. I’m currently rocking him in my arms. He’s still asleep. I look up at Calliope.
,,Would you like to hold him, honey?’’ I ask.
,,Yes.’’ She answers. I hand her the baby. She looks at him with such adoration in her eyes, it takes my breath away! Just now I realise how much he looks like her. He has raven hair and caramel skin. His eyes are closed but I know they’re big brown ones. And now that I see her with such a beautiful boy in her arms, her smile illuminating the whole room, I realise that I want this. A little boy that looks like her. That smile. This is what I want to see everyday for the rest of my life!
So suddenly, so strong
My prejudice was gone.
You needed me, I found my place,
I’m different now these days!
I don’t know why I didn’t see this earlier. This beauty. Our family. But I can see it now! I see us together sitting in the backyard of our own house watching our children play with the dog. I see a little boy with raven hair and brown eyes and a little girl with blond curls and baby blue eyes. She smiles at me and I can see it. Dimples. This is perfection! This is what I want!
,,Earth to Arizona!’’ Calliope says.
,,Huh?’’ I snap out of my trance. ,,Oh, yeah. I’m super actually! Look, I need to go. I just remembered I have to do something … work! I need to get back to my kids!’’ I ramble. She looks at me a bit confused.
,,Oh, ok.’’ She says. I give her a quick peck and hurry out of the room. But I don’t plan on working. No! I need to look for something. Immediately! And she can’t know …

I spent three weeks searching, but finally I found it. This is perfect! I can’t wait until Calliope sees this. I’ll show her tonight.
When she gets home I’m already lying on the couch pretending not to have any plans.
,,Hey, sunshine!’’ she kisses me lightly.
,,Hey, yourself!’’ I replie. ,,How was your day?’’
,,Like hell!’’ she groans. ,,Five surgeries, only one successful.’’ She sighs. ,,Definitely not my day!’’
,Oh, Calliope, you have no idea!’ I think triumphantly.
,,How about you take a bath and relax a bit?’’ I suggest.
,,Yeah, I think that’s really what I need now!’’ she replies and walks towards the bathroom. Once she’s inside I get up and start to change into my sexiest dress. It’s a blue one that ends just above my knees. I put on a pair of black stilettos and some make-up. When I’m finished I sit on the bed and wait for Calliope to get ready. I don’t have to wait long until the door opens. When Calliope spots me sitting on the bed in this dress her jaw drops and she freezes. Seems like she’s enjoying what she sees though I can’t complain myself. I mean, she’s only clad in a towel!
,,Like what you see?’’ I ask with a smirk. She nods.
,,Absolutely!’’ She lungs herself towards me and captures my lips in a searing kiss. Wow! That was fast! But I have to stop it. I have other plans.
,,Wait!’’ I say. Or better shout. She looks perplexed.
,,What? Why?’’ She’s so cute when she’s confused. Focus, Arizona!
,,Because I have other plans for tonight.’’ I wink at her. ,,You dress yourslf up a bit! I’ll wait outside.’’
,,But I wanna stay in bed!’’ she whines. Oh god, this pout! If our children can pout like that I’ll get into trouble!
,,No, Calliope! I promise you’ll like your surprise!’’ I say before leaving the bedroom and closing the door. I sit down on the couch again and wait.
You trusted me to grow,
I gave my heart to show.
There’s nothing else I cherish more,
I stand by you for sure!
When Calliope finally steps out of the bedroom I am stunned. She is so beautiful! She had put on a red dress which ended just above her knees, just like mine. Her incredibly long legs and in a pair of black stilettos. She looks so hot! I hope I don’t ruin my plan by jumping her too soon! Don’t get me wrong, I plan on rocking her world tonight. Just not yet and not here. I put out a scarf and walk over to her.
,,What are you up to?’’ she asks.
,,Not saying! But you’ll see soon!’’ I replie. I walk to stand behind her and blindfold her. I grad her hand and guide her out of the apartement building straight to my car. Once we both sit in there she starts to ask questions.
,,Patience, baby!’’ I only say. ,,It’ll be worth it. Trust me!’’

When we reach our destination I guide Calliope through the door and take off the blindfold. When she opens her eyes I see confusion in there.
,,Where are we?’’ she asks. I smile
,,Do you like it?’’ I ask with a grin.
,,Yeah, it’s really a nice place, but where ARE we?’’
,,Welcome home, honey!’’ I say as I wrap my arms around her from behind.
,,Home?’’ she asks shocked. ,,As in our home?’’
,,Yeah!’’ I chuckle. ,, This is our place. If you want it to be ours, that is …’’
,,Of course!’’ she interrupts me. ,,This place is beautiful! I love you!’’ She turns around in my arms and kisses me softly.
,,How about I show you around then?’’ I suggest.
,,Why not!’’ she says. ,,Where’s the bedroom?’’ I grin.
,,Patience, Calliope! I already told you I have a plan for tonight.’’ I wink at her playfully.
,,You’re such a tease! But I can wait.’’ She replies.
I show her our new house starting in the livingroom, the kitchen, the diningroom and the office downstairs. Then I go upstairs with her following me. We are currently standing in the bathroom. There are three other rooms up here. Calliope already noticed that.
,,Arizona, this place is perfect, but what do we need the other three rooms fo? I mean, one of it will be our bedroom, but what about the other two? We don’t need so many rooms for us!’’ she rambles a bit confused. I chuckle. She’s so adorable!
,,Well, honey, we’ll need the rooms for our kids!’’ I state matter-of-factly. Her eyes widen in surprise.
,,What? What did you just say?’
,,I said that when we have kids, we’ll need those two rooms. Up until then we can use them as guestr…’’ I don’t get to finish this sentence since suddenly her lips are capturing mine.
,,Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!’’ she squeals. ,,But are you sure? About having kids?’’ she asks a little unsure.
,,Yes, I am absolutely sure!’’ I calm her down. ,,I love you and if there’s anyone with whom I wanna have kids it’s you! You are my life!’’
