The coward's way out.
[The desk drawer is of more interest, though. She looks inside.]

Lacking a record player to play it at the moment, of course, means that it's little more than a flat black disc for now.]

Was your death too hasty, or was this intentional? Hm, we'll find out later.

The note just gets a subtle glance over, but the Mayor gets the most of his attention. Just in case, Dist snatches up the gun, then starts an investigation proper.
This should be good.]

His searching leads him to the Mayor's Office, and he is more then willing to head inside to escape the elements outside.
He'll stop suddenly when he sees the body, looking horrified.]

Suicide.
[Slugger steps around Luke into the room, his eyes fixed mostly on the body as he ventures cautiously toward the desk.]

I-it's still awful.
[And he'll follow behind Slugger, trying to avoid looking at the body.]

[After a year of Mayfield playing with one's mind, one begins to doubt reality. This is all too true in Slugger's case. He's seen so many false things here, it's hard to tell what's meant to be real and what isn't.
In a pair of his shoes he'd found amidst the rubble, Slugger steps quietly toward the desk. His gaze has shifted away from the Mayor's corpse now to take in the rest of the room. At his side he carries the baseball bat given to him by Susan last Christmas which he'd had enough sense to store in Edward's underground base.]
You heard the phone call?

No powers, no werecoyote. He was checking here then heading for friends.
The note told him enough.]]

[[This, all the destruction.
He remembered Westport, it was so empty. But he hadn't lived in Westport for a year.]]

And then, the whole place went up in a nuclear holocaust. OH GOD WHAT FUN!!!
He'd spent his time prancing about in the streets, not really caring about the nuclear fallout...but admiring the bodies strewn about. What a great day for a frolic! He found the complete destruction to be...somewhat repugnant, but the joke behind it that only he could see had him in stitches.
As one of the few buildings left in tact, the Joker had wandered inside to find the note.
Upon reading it...he could only laugh...hysterically. He squats over the body of the dead Mayor, poking at his bleeding head.]
This place had a Mayor, and the stress even got to be too much for him? Oh, how droll, Mayor-poo. Shooting yourself in the head ( ... )

Once he's made his way towards the Mayor's office, though, he stops dead in his tracks at the familiar sound of chilling laughter. Taking a tentative peek inside the room, he gets his first look at the cackling clown. Well, no. He doesn't look much like a clown, not now. But it is him. In the flesh.]
Joker.

If it ain't my old pal! [He tosses the pistol over his shoulder as he speaks, seemingly thinking twice about taking the dreadful thing and he begins to saunter toward Edward.]
Come to have fun in the ashes too? I wonder what kinds of tricks you've got up your sleeve! Hehe!

What the hell happened here?
[It's right about now that he realizes that they aren't the only two in the room---the Mayor of Mayfield himself appears to be hunched over his desk, a bullet wound in the forehead. That, along with the fact that the Joker had just been holding the gun... It's enough to make the Riddler's face fall, to morph his complexion into a pallor as green as his suit.]
