[After finding out he no longer had a house, Luke set off to search the city for people he knows. Or just trying to figure out what happened even.

His searching leads him to the Mayor's Office, and he is more then willing to head inside to escape the elements outside.

He'll stop suddenly when he sees the body, looking horrified.]

[A voice speaks behind Luke.]

Suicide.

[Slugger steps around Luke into the room, his eyes fixed mostly on the body as he ventures cautiously toward the desk.]

[Luke nearly jumps a foot into the air, before clutching his chest.]

I-it's still awful.

[And he'll follow behind Slugger, trying to avoid looking at the body.]

I wonder if it's real...

[After a year of Mayfield playing with one's mind, one begins to doubt reality. This is all too true in Slugger's case. He's seen so many false things here, it's hard to tell what's meant to be real and what isn't.

In a pair of his shoes he'd found amidst the rubble, Slugger steps quietly toward the desk. His gaze has shifted away from the Mayor's corpse now to take in the rest of the room. At his side he carries the baseball bat given to him by Susan last Christmas which he'd had enough sense to store in Edward's underground base.]

You heard the phone call?

[Luke takes his time to inspect around the room, after all he's not in any hurry to go outside again.]

Yes, I heard it.

I wonder what he was talking to.

[There was no lack of things to wonder about. Who was Annie? Had the Mayor really shot himself? Or had it been the thing he was talking to? That's when Slugger spots a letter on the desk. It's the only thing in the room that isn't covered in dust.]

Luke... [He gestures for him to come toward the desk.]

Did you find something?

[Luke immediately heads over to join Slugger next to the desk.]

[Nodding, he points to the letter on the desk but doesn't touch or move it. Once they've both had a chance to read it, Slugger turns silently to Luke, his eyes wide. That final line is the one thing on his mind.]
