Hugely obese black woman wearing a tight whit T-shirt with the words “JUST DO ME” stretched tightly across her chest.

Short, powerfully-built Jamaican man with beautiful waist-length dreadlocks, carrying what I swear was a round of extremely powerful ammo over his shoulder, and not casually enough for it to be a fashion accessory.

Me on park bench in Riverside Park reading James Herriot. Middle-aged guy with tennis racket saunters over, asks what I’m reading. Interviewed my film professor today. It was supposed to be just an hour, tops, for a dinky little profile for The Pioneer, but we ended up sitting and talking movies for two and a half hours. It's fun to see the bus drivers grinning and waving madly when they pass each other on the road, and making faces at each other, and silly little gestures that must be inside jokes because they make no sense otherwise, and laughing hysterically as they drive away.
