Five weeks into the life drawing class and this week we returned to looking at tone in our drawings. This time we were practising starting with a midtone.
To start we did a few quick sketches on grey-brown sugar paper, using a white chalk pencil for highlights.
To finish we blanket-covered some white paper with charcoal and used a rubber for highlighting, which is a surprisingly effective technique. I was pretty happy with the final drawing although I've done the poor guy's head way too small! (In my defence the teacher did insist we not concern ourselves with accurate structure)
We miss a week next week for half term but then we get into doing long poses - i.e. one full drawing per night. Looking forward to that as I tend to enjoy the drawings where I've got time to work them up a bit more.
