I second what Avery Johnson said.
You know it was that thing where he said something like: I wish they could see what I see, cause in my eyes they are champions.
Here’s another triumph for the bad guys and more reason to think maybe the saying “Nice guys finish last” could be true.
Here’s my story.
Once upon a time there were 30 teams fighting for the same thing. That one thing that would set them apart from the rest, to be part of history and be the last man (men) standing. All teams have that goal -- the NBA Championships.
The way there tests everything from wits, skills, mentality, heart and passion.
Each team will go through small battles 82 times in a span of five and a half months. Towards the end of that sixth month eight of the best teams in the west duke it out while the eight of the best teams in the east do the same.
There are two teams in particular, the Dallas Mavericks of the west and the Miami Heat of the east.
The Miami Heat first of defeated another one of those “nice guy” teams the Chicago Bulls. Next, the somewhat surprising still kind off not respected New Jersey Nets. Then they faced a more difficult team, that team that made bad look so good, the Detroit Pistons. The Heat conquered each adversary which led them to THE war that the remaining 28 teams wanted to fight but couldn’t.
The Dallas Mavericks, okay sure they defeated one of those “nice guy” teams the Memphis Grizzlies, but it wasn’t a good vs. bad type situation, it was more of what people my think is dull -- good vs. good. Next they came face to face with that good guy team almost on their way to that not so much a bad guy but more of a douche bad (especially their fans, man they’re vicious) category, the team that won THE war last year, our neighbor the San Antonio Spurs. Lastly, before THE war -- there’s our almost ally, that team we once were, the Phoenix Suns.
Each one a good fight but for these two teams, the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat had to fight for that one goal now.
There’s a reason why the Miami wears red with flames embroidered on each pant leg. For every gloat that came from the Heat (especially Antoine Walker’s face) it just started to really look like a battle versus good and evil.
I’m not gonna lie, yes they played well but I truly believe they had a little help. This is the first time I truly believe that refs had their hand in this one -- A LOT! There are speculations of a little corruption going around, I’m not saying it as me, I’m just stating what has been stated.
The last four games were good games just not a happy ending. It doesn’t mean that one of the teams wanted it more, I believe the “want” was equal. So don’t you dare tell me that the Mavericks didn’t want it, because they wanted it--bad! They just didn’t get it *cough* foul calls *cough.*
With eleven seconds left and the Heat up by 5, I threw my phone down on the floor and went to take a shower; my dad told me “it’s just a game.”
No, it’s more than just a game. It’s life (for some people), it defines who some people are (especially for people like me, where despite I missed a lot of the regular season this year people still see me and know me as a basketball fan and most importantly a Mavericks fan), it gives you that feeling that nothing else in normal life can give you but most importantly to me in this series it was the battle versus good and evil.
But evil won.
Despite this debacle, broken hearts, wreck nerves, irritated eyes and disconcertment that maybe the bad beat out the good this time…I still believe that the good guys will have their day. Especially these good guys led by Avery Johnson and Mark Cuban…and when that day comes just so you know I’ll be there for all the good times and the bad. I’ll be there every step along with millions of fans who still sees them as champions (Western Conference Champions this year, at the very least).
