Ok, Shanda. I love you, you know I do. But you are wrong about this, and I truly hope that you come to see that someday.
It's true, what hervoice says, those are discredited rumors that the McCain campaign put out in a failed attempt to get people to change their minds about Obama. The way I see it, those smear campaigns were nothing but a last fleeting hope of winning the election, a clutching at straws, if you will. There's very little truth in them, and they should be taken with a grain of salt. And what does being Muslim have to do with anything? Nothing, nothing at all. Or at least that's how it should be. Elections should be past religion and race and friendships, whether credible or not. They should be about ideals and action and who is better quipped to change this country for the better.
And was it really necessary to compare our new President to Hitler? Come on, is he really that bad, Obama I mean? I know that I don't have the same views, the same opinions as you, but come on, don't you think that's a little extreme? Despite my distaste for history, I have read my history book. I do remember about learning about Hitler, and Vietnam, and Korea. And I don't see it as being the same. And I certainly don't see Obama ad the next Hitler.
And one last thing before I go. Congress never officially declared war. The "War on Terrorism" is not a real war; it's just Bush being over-zealous and sending our troops, our families and friends, into the middle east, some stupid vendetta that his father started but couldn't finish. Yes, I remember 9/11! How could I not! And personally, I think it's outrageous that you would accuse people of forgetting such a horrendous event. I, personally, could never forget. The planes; the smoke; the shock; the fear, knowing my Uncle might possibly be there, stuck in that retched mess, not knowing whether he was alive or not. And then when the towers fell. That entire day being stuck at school, everyone giving you as little information as humanly possible, but sneaking out to the library or Mrs. Mercer's room to watch the news that was permanently pasted to the television. The entire day is freeze-framed inside my head, like some hideous collage, and I will NEVER forget. And yes, I agreed with Bush's little escapade with our military at first, when they were going after the threat, the one who attacked our country. Then he deviated and went after Iraq. Nukes, he said. But there were no nukes, were there? No. And yes, Iraq is "free" now, free of their dictator, but still plagued by radicals. They don't want us there, and they never did, and we should have never gone over there in the first place. Too many of our soldiers have already died for no reason, just because we are there. And Bin Laden is still out there, and it seems as though everyone has forgotten about him. But he's out there, somewhere, bidding his time, because we gave up on our search for him, our main goal, our main threat, and went to fight for nothing. So, yes, I want our troops out of there. And, quite frankly, I don't care what it does to that country. I get that we should help, because we're the ones that made the mess there. But we only seems to be making it worse.
