Opera Managers File Lawsuit Against Opera Ghost
20/12/2006 20h04
PARIS, France (AFP) - Emboldened in the wake of last week’s allegations against The Phantom of the Opera, the management of the Paris Opera has filed both criminal and civil lawsuits against the Opera Ghost.
According to papers filed yesterday, the charges include extortion, property damage, emotional distress, and squatting. The management is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
The Phantom of the Opera, long believed to be a delusion of the singers and a ludicrous fantasy concocted by the overheated brains of the dancers in the corps de ballet, proved to be a flesh and blood threat when he masterminded the career of his then-protégée, Christine Daaé. His reign of terror apparently ended after the premiere of his controversial opera, “Don Juan Triumphant,” a work that the majority of critics derided as “vulgar,” un-hummable,” and “Worst Opera Ever.”
In a statement made by Rèmy Lavelle, secretary to the Opera House management, the management believe “our case against this vile monster is solid and justice will be served,” further adding, “at least, we’re reasonably sure we can get him on the squatting charge.”
