A local boy who has fought cancer for the past 3 years is not doing so well. They didn't expect him to make is through the last couple of nights but he has. He is only a freshmen in high school and it goes back to 7th grade when it started. Started out with a ache in his knee and when they went to check it out at the doctors thinking it was growing pains or something minor it turned out to be a rare form of cancer. They took off his leg to stop the spread but it turned up in his lungs. They then took part of his lungs and he went through intense treatment. Everytime they thought they had it under control it would pop up again. There was a time last year when it settled down and he was doing well. He has been in school the last year and with the most upbeat attitude. Last month they went to an appointment and they found a large tumor. He beat every one of these instances but this time it was too much.
I have gotten to know him this year and you can't find a nicer kid. Always has a smile. His parents are great people and the strength that he has showed at such a young age is unreal. Even when the outlook was not good he fought through it. I think everyone that has known him or just knew of the situation has grown and learned from all of this.
It is hard to understand how a kid his age could go through all of this knowing the possible fate and still hold such strength. People come into our lives and inspire us and I am a firm believer that everyone has a purpose in life. So many have been inspired by this 14 year old. I know I have.
